What's On Tonight (Friday): A New Musical Comedy Series Starring... Her?

I'll be honest: I'm probably not going watch any of the new stuff this week.  Just nothing that seems up my alley.  Up Here comes closest.  It's got a pretty impressive pedigree of musical theater people working behind the camera (basically everyone that worked on Lin-Manuel Miranda projects who wasn't Lin-Manuel Miranda), and it stars Mae Whitman, an actress I am always happy to see on screen.  So why won't I watch it?  I've got too many other shows to watch right now.  I started binging Yellowjackets this week, Picard isn't terrible, Mandalorian (despite the weird editing on the first three episodes), Peaky Blinders (yeah, I finally started it), etc.  I just got too much stuff that I know I will enjoy vs. something I MIGHT enjoy, and I have to go with the former every time.  Still, Up Here looks cute.

*This is your heads up that the Lifetime movie tonight, Twisted Sister, has nothing to do with the 80's metal band.  But honestly, who better to tell Dee Snider's truth?

*This week's winner for the movie with the title most likely to turn off 99% of the movie going public: The Almond and the Seahorse.  

*Apple has a Country Music themed reality competition show premiering this week.  It looks exactly what you think a Country Music themed reality show geared towards Apple's target audience would look like.  Reese Witherspoon is one of the creators, but you probably already guessed that.

I signed up for Showtime in order to watch Everything, Everywhere, All at Once with my family (it was my second time - I love that movie).  I have it free for a week so, as I wrote above, I started binging Yellowjackets.  It's been tricky avoiding spoilers since the second season starting soon, but I've managed to stay ignorant.  I can understand why it's such a big hit.  I managed to get my wife sucked into it.  She only half watches as she doesn't want to watch the more intense parts, which is half the show.

I also started watching Class of 07 on Amazon, which has A LOT in common with Yellowjackets, but is very much a comedy.  '07 is about a bunch of graduates from an all-girls school having a reunion at the school, which happens to be on top of a mountain and deserted except for the party.  While they party the world becomes flooded for some reason (🤷‍♂️) and they are stranded at the school.  There are flashbacks to when they were in school, but they are much more fleeting that Yellowjackets.  I also suspect that if '07 deals with cannibalism, it'll be a lot funnier.
