What's On Tonight (Friday): A Little Less Conversation, a Little More Action Please...

Agent Elvis

A lot of premieres this week.  Amazon alone has four new series and the second season of another one debuting today.  That's a pretty normal Netflix load, but we usually only get one or two things from Amazon.  I had assumed this would be a light weekend for releases what with March Madness and all, but the streamers seem to have no fear of the college basketball slugfest.

There were a couple contenders for Top Pick today.  One of those aforementioned Amazon shows is an Australian comedy series called Class of 07 about a ten-year reunion at an all-girls school that gets interrupted, and prolonged, by the apocalypse.  It looks hilarious and I will definitely be checking that out.

But, NO.  Top Pick today is going to the new Netfix animated series, Agent Elvis.  Look at the freakin' voice cast for this thing!  Matthew McConaughey playing Elvis?  Priscilla Presley playing herself?  Gary Cole?  Kaitlin Olson?  Simon Pegg?  This thing is the murders' row that murdered the previous murders' row (case unsolved).  I didn't GIVE Agent Elvis Top Pick, I BEGGED Agent Elvis to accept this small token of our gratitude for its mere existence, and Agent Elvis accepted it graciously.  Why?  Because he is a CLASS. FUCKING. ACT.

๐Ÿ”” Agent Elvis (Netflix, 3:01 AM) SEASON ONE. 'Elvis trades in his jumpsuit for a jetpack when he joins a secret government spy program to help battle the dark forces that threaten the country.  Featuring the voices of Matthew McConaughey, Kaitlin Olson, Don Cheadle, Niecy Nash, Johhny Knoxville, Tom Kenny and Priscilla Presley.'

Elsewhere...

*THIS IS YOUR OFFICIAL NOTICE: The new Sky High: The Series has nothing to do with the beloved (BELOVED, GODDAMNIT!) Disney film of the same name.  I don't know what these shenanigans are about, but shenanigans they are.

*One of the series debuting on Amazon, Swarm, was co-created by Donald Glover and Janine Nabers.  It looks dark and weird.  As much as I like Glover, dark and weird just isn't what I'm looking for right now, but I'm sure someone out there must be interested.

Watched the first three episodes of The Mandalorian this week.  No spoilers from me, but it was an odd three episodes to start with.  Feels like there was a lot of editing together scenes that were originally part of other episodes.  This second one is easily my favorite of the three, which seems to be the general opinion.  I'm not sure what to think yet of the third one but the bookend scenes definitely felt like they should have been at the end of the pervious episode, which itself felt like it should have been combined with the first episode to make one relatively big episode.  The rest of it was weird, and I'm not certain it worked.  I'll probably give it another shot if I find other people like it more than I did, but I'll be happy to get back to the main storyline next week.
