What's On Tonight (Friday): You Want RomComs or a Crime Fighting Dinosaur?

Marvel's Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur

We have new films from Allison Brie and Reese Witherspoon, but I'm giving Top Pick status to the only thing I might actually watch.  I'm not familiar at all with the Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur comic books, but I like the animation style of the cartoon and the overall energy I got from the trailer.  Sorry Allison and Reese, I loves the both of ya, but Moon Girl is a superhero that fights crime with her T-Rex best friend.  You never stood a chance.

TOP PICK

🔔 Marvel's Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur (Disney Channel, 8:00 PM) SERIES PREMIERE. 'Follows the adventures of 13-year-old super-genius Lunella Lafayette and her 10-ton T-Rex, Devil Dinosaur, whom she accidentally brings through time into present-day New York City. Equipped with Devil's fierce loyalty and brawn, the loving support of her family and best friend Casey, Lunella sets out to make a difference and protect her Lower East Side neighborhood from danger.'

Elsewhere...

*In the battle of the romcom premieres, I have to give the edge to Brie's Somebody I Used to Know over Witherspoon's Your Place or Mine.  I realize the latter will probably get more streams, but it also has Ashton Kutcher, and never my stream shall Kutcher receive (not a euphamism).  And is Kutcher really still a big enough name to co-headline a film with Witherspoon?  His last big project was starring in a Netflix series with Scientology rapist guy (no, not Sam Elliott) that no one watched or remembers.

*AMC+ has a spooky new movie that appears to be part Hellraiser, part Final Destination with a dash of The Ring.  I wasn't certain of the film's influences until I learned the original title was Hellringer Nation.  And I'm totally copyrighting that title right now.

*Roku has a "reality romcom" about three women who go to Paris to find love.   The ads are very forceful in proclaiming that these are "REAL WOMEN."  I don't want to rain on this particular parade but I'm pretty sure most of the women in fictional romcoms were 'REAL WOMEN."  It's like some weird microaggression.  Someone get PC Principal on the line.

I finished season two of Picard.  I never expected to be alive at a time where multiple Star Trek shows are in production, including a Nickelodeon cartoon, and easily my least favorite of them all would be the one starring Patrick Stewart.  I was fine with the first season up until the finale where everything about the show shit the bed simultaneously.  This season lost me almost at the beginning and just kept doubling down on the stupid.  The only saving grace is there's only one more season and then maybe we can finally get that Seven of Nine: Galactic Ranger series that the world demands.  Well, I demand it.
