What's on Tonight (Friday): Hunters vs. Hitler...

Hunters

I didn't watch the first season of Hunters, Amazon's Nazi hunting series.  I had assumed it was a show about people just hunting Nazi's hiding around the world.  Having just read some episode descriptions, it sounds like it got a lot crazier than that.  Regardless of how nuts the first season was, the second season has a "hold my beer" moment and is about the Hunters hunting the biggest Nazi of them all.  This appears to be the final season of Hunters, which is understandable as I'm not sure where you go with the story after this.  Nazi clones?  Nazis in space?  Nazi baking challenges?

TOP PICK

🔔 Hunters✔️ (Amazon, 12:01 AM) FINAL SEASON. 'After an accident derails their exploits in Europe, The Hunters must band back together to hunt down history's most infamous Nazi — Adolf Hitler — who's hiding in South America. Meanwhile, a look to the past reveals Meyer Offerman (Al Pacino) encountering a dangerous threat that could unravel his secret and expose his true identity, with explosive reverberations for our Hunters.'

Elsewhere...

There isn't a lot going on today, which is why the second season of a show that wasn't a big hit and I never watched is the Top Pick.  But that doesn't mean there aren't premieres:

*Hulu has a new film called The Drop, the plot of which sounds a lot like that Australian series (and it's American remake), The Slap.  The main difference here is that while The Slap was a source of unintended comedy, The Drop is intended to be a comedy.  Reviews are decent (71% on RT), but they aren't hunting Hitler so it doesn't get the Top Pick bump.

*Peacock has a new pandemic-inspired horror film and it lost me at "pandemic-inspired horror film."

*Netflix and Amazon both have new sports docu-series: the former about up and coming tennis stars and the latter about the attempt to start a new soccer league in Europe.  I don't really care about either, but I'll be taking over the Sportsball posts come Monday so I figured I should at least feign interest.

Continuing my Star Trek binge, I moved on the Prodigy and season two of PicardProdigy feels like what it is, a Nickelodeon kids series that happens to take place in the Star Trek universe.  I don't think it's going to win over the kids.

As for Picard, I realized after watching the first episode that my main issue with the show (beyond my absolute hatred for the end of the first season) is the lead character.  The character just doesn't feel anything like the Picard of TNG or even the films.  He's way too fucking nice!  He's so happy to meet and see everyone that I half expected him to give Q a hug when he showed up.  Thankfully, instead we finally got to see some of the old Picard who just doesn't want to deal with any of Q's crap.  Hopefully that's a good sign for the rest of the season.  It's already been renewed for a third and final season, so hopefully that will give way to a Seven of Nine series.  I never thought I would see the day when Seven of Nine is a more compelling character than Jean-Luc Picard but that's where we stand.
