What's On Tonight (Sunday): Standing by your man isn't easy

George & Tammy

Duttons Knows Best! Here's what's on television for tonight, Sunday, December 18!

Our Top Pick tonight is the miniseries George & Tammy (Showtime, 9 p.m.). It chronicles the tumultuous relationship of country music super-duo George Jones (Michael Shannon) and Tammy Wynette (Jessica Chastain) in the late'60s and '70s. To say it was messy and complicated would be an understatement. 2 episodes in (both are free on YouTube), it's a good miniseries, though it's more of an actors' showcase at many points. Steve Zahn, David Wilson Barnes, Walton Goggins, Tim Blake Nelson, and Katy Mixon are also in the cast.

Elsewhere, DuttonVerse expands yet again because no one will stop Taylor Sheridan, a secret identity gets a Step UpRogue Heroes encounter tragedy, the hills are alive on ABC, Coroner offers a final season report, Tulsa King is stable, and Lisa Ling sees multicolored love in Life's conclusion.

πŸ“Ί Scooby-Doo, Where Are You! (HBO Max, now): The Saturday morning cartoon that started it all. In the decades that followed, more than a dozen series and many movies for TV, home video, and theaters picked up (or repackaged) stories about Scooby and his Mystery, Inc. friends Shaggy, Fred, Daphne, and Velma. The show is certainly an acquired taste, especially after you reach a certain age. I enjoy the recent incarnations, and am hesitantly looking forward to Velma.

Tulsa King (Paramount+, 3 a.m.): "Stable"

It, rather than Christmas, is the most celebrated day in the small nation of Ryeland, located on the eastern coast of the Christmasia plains and the one place where yulelads are the majority. This is the story of how rye became a part of the yulelad tradition and eventually led to the creation of Ryeland. It begins thousands of years ago, when elves were only starting to arrive and long before leprechauns and whos appeared. One farmer was tinkering around with this plant, which he believed could be modified to grow more and better grains. He spent the better part of a decade perfecting the plant, arriving at the ideal and most survivable version just as a two-year drought began. In its second year, the calamity devastated society and many left seeking better opportunities. With Hanukkah approaching, the man's rye crop has done incredibly well and he shared his bounty in a small feast for his community to ensure spirits were lifted for Hanukkah.
