What's On Tonight (Saturday): The Sappiest season

Sappy Holiday

It's bad bitch o'clock! Here's what's on television for tonight, Saturday, December 17!

Our Top Pick tonight is the holiday TV movie Sappy Holiday (UPtv, 7 p.m.), one of a bajillion titles that have so far aired this holiday season. The movie's trailer does it zero favors and I'm pretty tells the entire movie in ~90 seconds. Woman thinks something is off about her romantic life and then someone new swoops to rescue her... but at least it is someone new to her, too, instead of some ex or high school crush. It's Saturday, and options are limited.

Elsewhere, the romantic interest from The Carrie Diaries is Live from New York, Colin Farrell and Brendan Gleeson aren't friends, the Abyss demands a body part, Kyle Chandler reads the newspaper, iHeartRadio hosts its annual Jingle Ball, Academia is under attack, and Sherri Papini gets Oxygen doc treatment.

This Weekend in Pop Culture (9:30 p.m.): What pop culture have you consumed lately? This is our weekly thread for you talk about it.

STREAMING & EARLY PRIMETIME

πŸ“Ί Dating Naked (Paramount+, now): The title really says it all about this dating reality show that aired for 3 seasons on VH1 in the mid '10s. People go on dates in exotic locations wearing nothing, though more people were thrown into these dates after the first season. A revival is currently in the works for Paramount+.

The Doctor Blake Mysteries (Ovation, 7 p.m.): Ballarat hospital's only female doctor is found hanged in an apparent suicide. A telegram arrives for Blake with some news about his family.

⭐πŸŽ₯πŸŽ„ Sappy Holiday (UPtv, 7 p.m.): When a sous chef accidentally discovers her boyfriend is going to propose to her on Christmas Eve, she begins doubting their future together. Especially when a handsome maple farmer rescues her from a snowstorm.

WHAT ELSE IS ON
Jamie vs. Britney: The Father Daughter Trials (Discovery+, 3 a.m.): Special

πŸ•— 8 P.M. EASTERN / πŸ•– 7 P.M. CENTRAL

πŸŽ₯πŸŽ„ Aisle Be Home for Christmas (GAC Family): The Christmasia military has been hit with a string of losses lately, so the Koal Federation's Gen. Strike is hitting hard while morale is low. With several forces in retreat, regrouping farther within the province of Rosemary, Strike sees one more key opportunity. He aims for the city of South Holly, an elf dominated city in an otherwise diverse province. The fighting is minimal as the Christmasia forces are in retreat, but then Gen. Vixen makes a last stand. They hold their ground on the north side of the city, so an aging shopping center adjacent to the diverse suburbs of Ilex and Aquifol become the frontlines as the two armies clash. Of all places, the decisive battle climaxes at a GrootMart. Strike and Vixen battle one another, department to department... aisle by aisle. It starts as a pretty low-key cat-and-mouse game, but once the kitchen and home & garden sections are totaled, it becomes an all-out clash in the women's and baby clothing sections.

πŸŽ₯ The Banshees of Inisherin (HBO): Lifelong friends Colin Farrell and Brendan Gleeson find themselves at an impasse when one abruptly ends their relationship, with alarming consequences for both of them.✔️

πŸŽ₯πŸŽ„ The Holiday Dating Guide (Lifetime): "Abigale Slater makes her lifelong dream come true when she finishes her first book -- a guide to dating in the modern world. However, to satisfy her publisher, Abigale must prove her advice works by making a man fall for her within the next 12 days." What a horrible publisher.

πŸŽ₯πŸŽ„ 'Twas the Night Before Christmas (Hallmark Channel): With Julenissen dead and all other talks having concluded, there is a rush to finalize the formation of Christmasia between the 8 founding countries. A king has been selected and a small administering government can be established within a month. However, there are saboteurs afoot; spies trying to derail the process. The night before the formal, public signage and declaration of the new nation some members of the Jackrabbit Society come out of the woodwork to prevent the ceremony. Their intent is to hide the paperwork and written speeches, including the speech Julenissen wrote before he died, where no one will find them and sneak them out in an underground labyrinth in the early morning. The ceremony is supposed to unite the people, but if they have nothing to show, it will only extend the splintering that's already underway among some country leadership. However, what they didn't count on was secretary Annabelle Peppermint, who, without thinking, put the box with all the necessary papers on a guest chair in a secondary room and under a folded blanket that usually lay on the top of the chair. The Jackrabbit Society's plans are in chaos when they search in the midnight hours, but they will not give up easily.
