What's On Tonight (Saturday): Critter care

Critter Fixers: Country Vets

NORM! Here's what's on television for tonight, Saturday, December 10!

Our Top Pick tonight is undemanding docuseries Critter Fixers: Country Vets (National Geographic Wild, 9 p.m.). The show follows two vets in rural Georgia who have an animal practice and help furballs of all shapes and sizes get better. Cats and dogs... snakes and spiders... horses and turtles and everything in between.

Elsewhere, Steve & Martin are Live from New York, Decades remembers Kirstie Alley, Doctor Blake plays games, the Abyss kids are learning, Kirk Franklin wants us to experience a different kind of Christmas, Yashahime must destroy a comet, and Atsuko Okatsuka brings laughs to HBO.

(All times are Eastern. All listings are new unless otherwise stated. For more listings, visit The Futon Critic or Zap2it.)

This Weekend in Pop Culture (9:30 p.m.): What pop culture have you consumed lately? This is our weekly thread for you talk about it.

STREAMING & EARLY PRIMETIME

πŸŽ₯πŸŽ„  A Royal Christmas Match (UPtv, 7 p.m.): Princess Camille travels to America to create a college exchange program and falls for professor Rhett, but when she discovers he was hired by her father to babysit her, she wonders if he cares more about her or his career.

The Doctor Blake Mysteries (Ovation, 7 p.m.): When a contestant in a TV game show is electrocuted in his dressing room, Blake suspects foul play.

πŸ“Ί Doctor Who (Retro TV, 6 p.m.): In Underworld, a spaceship crew go on a 100,000-year quest for a ship with a genetic bank that'd restore their species.

πŸ“Ί Kung Fu (Plex, now): While it has very little to do with the CW reboot other than the title, the classic 1970s original series follows monk Kwai Chang Caine (David Carradine... not good casting in retrospect) as he travels the Old West seeking his half-brother. In flashbacks, we see Caine as a child and his later training with beloved mentor, Master Po. In every episode, he runs into some good people who are being mistreated, which Caine ultimately gets pulled into and helps resolve, usually with some martial arts, too.

πŸ•— 8 P.M. EASTERN / πŸ•– 7 P.M. CENTRAL

πŸŽ₯ Amsterdam (HBO): In the 1930s, three friends witness a murder, are framed for it, and uncover one of the most outrageous plots in American history.

πŸŽ₯πŸŽ„ The Art of Christmas (GAC Family): Following his conquest of the Koal Federation and ousting his cousin, Knecht Ruprecht, from power, Krampus is reinvigorated and an attempt to grasp even more power, he forms a small group dedicated to dismantling much of the free society that Ruprecht had helped establish. A large chunk of that task meant it was time to rewrite history. Krampus and his allies went to museums and began removing artworks by those who were critical of him during past generations and trying to quietly remove various works from the marketplace that endorsed or furthered ideas of free speech and free enterprise. Krampus ultimate goal was to get rid of this vast swath of works that was so large, multiple warehouses were used in every city. This is how the resistance to the movement began. Often populated by those who rose the social ranks during the Knechtan Period, small bands of people throughout the Federation began to help with the disposal process, but in doing so, stole and hid multiple works that they deemed too important to destroy. This included many manuscripts, local histories, and letters of hundreds of administrators who had governed a piece of the Federation in the last 250 years. However, it isn't long because Krampus’ allies are onto them.

πŸŽ₯πŸŽ„ Christmas Class Reunion (Hallmark Channel): 70 years after the founding of Christmasia, a rare event happened. The surviving people who had gathered to establish the country reunited to celebrate its anniversary. While Julenissen died shortly before the nation was even solidified, the other founders were all still living – Jack Frost, Alabaster Snowball, Dasher Nougat, and Rubbels. It was a rarity because Snowball and Rubbels had had a falling out years earlier and Jack Frost spent the last 10 years cut off from most of the world while he lived solitarily in the Land of the Northern Lights. The two-day reunion wasn't without some trouble. Gnomes and pixies were protesting, demanding clearer rights as well as just a seat at the table. While the founders are highly-iconic people, the only representation for Christmasia natives was Alabaster Snowball, who is still only one-half nisse. Everyone else is either elf, who, leprechaun or a combination of them. The reunion was an attempt to try and correct and fix some issues that had risen in the decades since its founding. There was also a new monarch on the thrown – Queen Carol I – who requested a review by the founders. As the event wound down, the contempt between Snowball and Rubbels, which isn't even political in nature, was reignited as the two fought vicariously and got petty as the group finalized their report for the Queen.

πŸŽ₯ Dominick and Eugene (TCM): Childlike Pittsburgh garbageman Tom Hulce helps put twin brother Ray Liotta through medical school.

πŸŽ₯πŸŽ„ Kirk Franklin's The Night Before Christmas (Lifetime): Caught in a blizzard on Christmas Eve, a woman and her estranged daughter find refuge inside a church with a group of parishioners. The spirit of the holiday season soon takes hold as they reconcile their differences through music, faith and love.
