What's On Tonight (Sunday): Magpies and Manville

Magpie Murders

Don't let the sun set on you in Tulsa! Here's what's on television for tonight, Sunday, November 13!

Our Top Pick tonight is the murder mystery Magpie Murders (PBS, 9 p.m.). Based on Anthony Horowitz's 2016 book, editor Susan Ryland (Lesley Manville) seeks out the truth about her best-selling novelist Alan Conway (Conleth Hill) when he dies shortly after finishing his latest Atticus PΓΌnd-mystery novel where he kills the character — and the manuscript is missing the all-important final chapter. The series, which is PBS' first collaboration with BritBox, also features a parallel period story of PΓΌnd (Tim McMullan) trying to solve a murder, and he often appears to Ryland to help her — and cope with the fact that the book spills all the tea on friends and family. I quite enjoy the show.

(If you want more Lesley Manville, she also stars in the Dangerous Liaisons adaptation at 8 p.m. and is Princess Margaret in the latest season of The Crown, which dropped Wednesday.)

Elsewhere, Sylvester Stallone invades Tulsa, Gene Belcher is addicted to VR, Family Law has drama, Yellowstone becomes governor(?!), Epix goes Rogue, and Family Guy likes Likes.

Cancellation League (3 p.m.-ish): Grey's Anatomy loses Grey when it returns in the spring! Could the show be wrapping up? Time to truly consider it for your midseason ballot?

STREAMING & EARLY PRIMETIME

60 Minutes (CBS, 7 p.m.): A 12-story beachfront condominium collapses... Resistance fighters risk their lives to save Jewish artifacts during and after the Holocaust... Sona Jobarteh, the first female virtuoso player of a centuries-old West African instrument called the kora.

πŸ“Ί Amazing Stories (NBC, now): This Steven Spielberg-created series brought a good amount of critical acclaim but didn't bring in viewers. The '80s anthology was a mix of many genres, though fantasy and science fiction were the basis for much of it and includes a great theme song. Apple TV+'s reboot was a dud.

Malory Towers (BYUtv, 7:30 p.m.): SEASON FINALE. At the boarding school Malory Towers, Darrell Rivers learns about kindness, honesty and empathy as she navigates her formative years with the help of her schoolmates and best friends.

Mood (AMC+, 3 a.m.): Sasha thinks she's found a best friend in Carly and her life is on the up until she makes a decision she never thought she would. (Last week's episode: AMC, 10 p.m.)

πŸŽ₯πŸŽ„ The Picture of Christmas (UPtv, 7 p.m.): A graphic designer and aspiring storybook illustrator in Manhattan is surprised to learn that she has inherited her grandmother's Christmas tree farm, so she heads to her hometown in order to sell it before Christmas.

SEAL Team (Paramount+, 3 a.m.): "Damage Assessment"

πŸŽ₯ Slash/Back (Shudder, 3 a.m.): "When Maika and her ragtag friends discover an alien invasion in their tiny arctic hamlet, it's up to them to save the day. Utilizing their makeshift weapons and horror movie knowledge, the aliens realize you don't mess with girls from Pang."

Tulsa King (Paramount+, 3 a.m.): SERIES PREMIERE. Following his release from prison, mafia capo Dwight "The General" Manfredi (Sylvester Stallone) is exiled to Tulsa, Oklahoma, where he builds a new criminal empire with a group of unlikely characters.✔️

America's Funniest Home Videos (ABC, 7 p.m.)
Kids Baking Championship (Food Network, 7 p.m.): Special
Power Trip: Those Who Seek Power and Those Who Chase Them (Hulu, 1 p.m.): Season finale
The Walking Dead: The Making of the Final Season (AMC+, 3 a.m. / AMC, 8 p.m.)

πŸ•— 8 P.M. EASTERN / πŸ•– 7 P.M. CENTRAL

πŸŽ₯πŸŽ„ Christmas at the Golden Dragon (Hallmark Channel): Legends of dragons in Christmasia's history exist, but they are certainly obscure and were largely passed down orally since they predate the written word. In snowmonster society, they were the top of the food chain. For pixies, they were the colossal giants who would devour giants. For the selkies, beings that died off a thousand years ago, they were said to be the reason the beings lived both in water and on land. Still, it was all myths. Then, during the Battle of Paperbark Bay, a shell from a Koal Federation cannon hit the remnants of an old Pixie sacred mound on the edge of a cliff, knocking it into the water below. It was incredibly old, and highly thought of, but no one had ever made an effort to preserve it and make it a landmark. Now gone, it revealed a large shiny bone within the rock directly underneath. After the battle ended, teams swarmed on it to find out what it was. Unearthed, it was most of the skull of a giant creature with nuggets of gold in its bone and a mouth large enough to swallow a snowmonster in one bite. It seems the myths are proven real.

Dangerous Liaisons (Starz): Camille's new future hangs in the balance. A face from the past triggers a long-buried need for revenge.

The Equalizer (CBS): When a smuggler being detained by the CIA must be transferred quickly to a secure debriefing site, McCall works with Carter Griffin to ensure he arrives unharmed.

Family Law (The CW): Abigail and Daniel represent a soon-to-be-starving-again artist who was once the third member of a polyamorous relationship. Daniel regrets dumping Danielle. After Abby gets doxxed, Frank and the kids stay with her at her mother's place. This episode sounds messy, and I love it.

The Great North (Fox, 8:30 p.m.): Beef and Judy tell alternate versions of a wild day. The rest of the Tobins try to finish reading a challenging novel.

Miss Scarlet and the Duke (PBS): A famous mystery writer is at the center of Eliza's investigation when a series of murders copy scenes from his books.

πŸŽ₯πŸŽ„ My Best Friend's Christmas (GAC Family): John Peerybingle and Caleb Plummer are old friends, but now they live on different sides of the border. With Christmas Day approaching soon, Caleb invites John to join him and his wife for the festivities. For John, who has never been a friend to Krampus and his authorities, this might be a chance to escape. Being a brownie – a mix of gnome and elf – in the Federation is hard enough, much less one who is being watched for anti-Federation activity. He has been to a prison once and refuses to ever go back. His last love, Dot, made it to the border 3 years ago, but John has no idea if she made it or if she is still alive. On Christmas Eve, John will gather his necessary belongings in a backpack and make his way 15 miles to the guarded border and attempt to enter the Christmasia province of Bummock. (Spoiler: John makes it and Dot is at Caleb's Christmas feast.)

Ruby and the Well (BYUtv): A confusing wish challenges Ruby with brokering peace after a longstanding family feud.

The Simpsons (Fox): When Homer becomes Duffman's girl-dad hero, they go on a road trip with Lisa that threatens to expose Homer's terrible parenting.

πŸŽ₯πŸŽ„ Six Degrees of Santa (Lifetime): Believing she may be his soul mate, a leading internet entrepreneur searches for the mystery woman whose Christmas gift wound up in his hands.

Yellowstone (Paramount Network): SEASON PREMIERE. John Dutton is sworn in as Governor of Montana. As John settles into the powers of his new office, he makes bold moves to protect the Yellowstone from his opponents. The bunkhouse and the Duttons enjoy the Governor's ball.✔️
