What's On Tonight (Saturday): Uncharted lands

Uncharted Adventure

No objection! Here's what's on television for tonight, Saturday, November 12!

Our Top Pick tonight is the docuseries Uncharted Adventure (The Weather Channel, 9 p.m.). The show documents marine biologist Mike Corey as he travels to underappreciated places and seeks out the thrills it has to offer. (The Top Pick pickings are slim!)

Elsewhere, Lil Rel has a new stand-up special, Doctor Blake becomes a judge, Decades has a weekend of Wonder, Dave Chappelle is Live again, Abyss goes to the sixth layer, Finding Happy seeks a leak, and Yashahime takes the Black Pearl.

(All times are Eastern. All listings are new unless otherwise stated. For more listings, visit The Futon Critic or Zap2it.)

This Weekend in Pop Culture (9:30 p.m.): What pop culture have you consumed lately? This is our weekly thread for you talk about it.

STREAMING & EARLY PRIMETIME

The Doctor Blake Mysteries (Ovation, 7 p.m.): Doctor Lucien Blake finds himself on the judging panel for the Begonia Festival.

πŸ“Ί Doctor Who (Retro TV, 6 p.m.): On Fang Rock, a shapeshifting alien scout plans to use Earth as a base in a war against the Sontarans.

πŸ“Ί Perry Mason (FreeVee / Paramount+, now): While there is the recent reboot of Erle Stanley Gardner's character that will have taken nearly 3 years between seasons when it finally returns next year, I will always default to original TV recipe Perry. Raymond Burr plays the criminal defense lawyer who (almost) always gets the real bad guy. Barbara Hale deserves more recognition, too, as Mason's secretary.✔️

πŸŽ₯πŸŽ„  A Tiny Home Christmas (UPtv, 7 p.m.): In order to save her family's contracting business, Blair reluctantly teams up with her ex-boyfriend to build a tiny home for the unsheltered in the community, rekindling old sparks in the process.

πŸ•— 8 P.M. EASTERN / πŸ•– 7 P.M. CENTRAL

πŸŽ₯πŸŽ„  A Merry Christmas Wish (GAC Family): The rise of Knecht Ruprecht, Krampus’ cousin, who took control of the young Koal Federation after the disastrous War of the First Noel, wasn't all because he was a smart man. He was a great statesman, but that only gets you so far in the Federation. He quickly rose the ranks during the war, but his anti-gremlin stance is what made him incredibly popular within many demographics. According to legend, Knecht met Weekum, the King of the Gnomes, one day on a walk in the woods. Weekum was said to be the last of his kind, who has a connection to a magical realm that no other being today possesses. Gnomes were the most hurt by the gremlins with villages sacked and many on the run. Weekum saw a good person who might be able to help his people in the years to come. Knecht said he wished to be more admired than Krampus, so Weekum made it a reality. Krampus' popularity waned as the war ended. Defeated, the Federation's Senate called for a vote of no confidence in him on three occasions, each stemming from a different issue – mismanagement of wartime funds, lack of a ceasefire in a neutral territory, and no action on gremlins. The third time was successful, and Knecht was quickly named the new leader. Admired by so many, he ruled for decades and ushered in the Knechtan Period. Peace was made with Christmasia and the Federation expanded its reaches south. However, Knecht wasn't always smarter than Krampus, who spent those decades rebuilding his alliances and would eventually retake the country by force.

πŸŽ₯πŸŽ„ Reindeer Games Homecoming (Lifetime): Sparks fly between a Vermont biology teacher and her high school crush as they compete in a holiday fundraising tradition.

πŸŽ₯πŸŽ„ The Royal Nanny (Hallmark Channel): In the more than 2 centuries following the establishment of Christmasia after the War of the First Noel, the power of the monarchy had slowly been diminished. It was a nanny, Necile, who served the royal family in the waning days of the War of the Third Noel, that brought down the monarchy. Necile wasn't vetted well during the hiring process, though the House of Noel had become lax and lazy when it came to security and privacy at home. She hails from the south where the monarchy has never been popular and doesn't have a long history with the country like the north. King Tingler II and Queen Shiegra approved of Necile when she publicly announced she was pregnant. The young king frequently made passes at the young nanny, and she saw first hand his nasty treatment of the house staff. She wasn't Tingler's first nanny affair either, but their affair was brief. As they imploded and became the palace fling no one wanted to acknowledge, especially after the princess was born, it became a loud public rumor. Necile began to secretly gather evidence, seeing that her reputation could be ruined upon dismissal. Tingler could be a cruel man, and his security began to flag her but was never able to catch her in the act. When she is finally dismissed, the end of the War of the Third Noel is in sight, and Necile decided to burn the royals to the ground. They were little more than figureheads at this point – Parliament and provincial governments run most of the country. Necile writes a short manuscript telling all that happened and all she was told. The king always ran his mouth during pillow talk. Investments in Koal Federation mining companies, hiring a private army to fight within the Federation, the mass citizen surveillance program started at the Christmas Carousel in Gold Star... Necile told all, including past affairs by both the king and queen. She sent a manuscript to 2 of the country's top news organizations. It wasn't difficult to figure out who the anonymous author was. Federal investigations began and once the war ended, parliament voted overwhelmingly to remove the monarchy, and most pro-royal members were voted out. The Noelist Party was dead even before the next parliamentary election.

Finding Happy (Bounce TV): D-1 Media's HR investigates the leaked video. When Yaz fumbles with the truth, Porter pulls the plug on putting Yaz on-air, causing her to argue and fall-out with Chanel.
