[Brooklyn Vegan] The Smile (Thom Yorke and Jonny Greenwood of Radiohead, and Tom Skinner of Sons of Kemet) have shared the music video for their A Light For Attracting Attention track "Pana-vision," which first came out in April. The video is directed by Anthony Byrne and features footage, namely an eerie solo scene by Cillian Murphy, from the Netflix series Peaky Blinders. "Pana-vision" was featured on the season finale of the show, and earlier this year Thom Yorke contributed tracks "That's How Horses Are" and "5.17" to the season 6 soundtrack as well.

The band is paying tribute to its leader Michelle Zauner’s Korean heritage with the release today (July 20) of a Korean-language version of its track “Be Sweet.” The new recording features vocal contributions from So!YoON!, the frontperson of eclectic Korean band SE SO NEON.


Slipknot Are Back With Punishing New Single, Album, Fall Tour
[Spin] After unveiling the single “The Chapeltown Rag” last year, Slipknot has confirmed their next album, The End, So Far, will be released Sept. 30 on Roadrunner. Another new track, the punishing “The Dying Song (Time to Sing),” is out now with a funhouse mirror-featuring video directed by band member M. Shawn Crahan (aka “Clown”).

1991: The very first Lollapalooza music festival is held in select locations throughout North America. Bands and artists include Jane's Addiction, Siouxsie and the Banshees, Nine Inch Nails, Living Colour, Ice-T, Butthole Surfers, Rollins Band, Violent Femmes and Fishbone.


July 19
1985: Joan Jett calls up-and-coming heavyweight boxer Mike Tyson before his fight with Larry Sims, which Tyson wins handily. The superstitious Tyson insists on getting a call from Jett before every fight, which he does until breaking tradition for his bout against Buster Douglas on February 11, 1990 - Tyson's first loss.

July 20
1940: The industry publication Billboard combines their sales charts for the first time, including all major labels. The first #1 is Tommy Dorsey's "I'll Never Smile Again," with vocals by Frank Sinatra.

July 21
1989: Performing on the Club MTV tour at a stop in Bristol, Connecticut, Milli Vanilli's tracks go screwy when they try to lip-synch to the song "Girl You Know It's True." As the line "girl you know it's..." repeats over and over, the duo panic and scurry off stage. It is later revealed that they didn't sing on their album. 1996: The Smokin' Grooves tour, the first major hip-hop traveling festival, kicks off a 33-date trek with a show in Sacramento, California. Artists include A Tribe Called Quest, Fugees, Cypress Hill and Busta Rhymes.

2011: Amy Winehouse dies in London of alcohol poisoning at the age of 27.  Here is some footage of her last performance:

1978: The film Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band opens in America, and it tanks hard. Savaged by critics, it becomes a legendary Hollywood flop despite appearances by Peter Frampton, Billy Preston, Aerosmith and The Bee Gees.
