What's On Tonight (Wednesday): Marvel-ous representation

Ms. Marvel

Let's get dangerous! Here's what's on television for tonight, Wednesday, July 13!

Our Top Pick tonight is the finale of the Marvel Cinematic Universe miniseries Ms. Marvel (Disney+, 3 a.m.). The series is a prequel to the movie The Marvels, due out next summer, introducing us to 16-year-old Pakistani-American Kamala Khan (Iman Vellani) and her discovery about becoming the superhero Ms. Marvel, modeled after her icon, Captain Marvel. The show approaches topics such as the partition of India and Kamala's familial drama about balancing religious demands versus being a free-spirited American teenager quite well. The G. Willow Wilson-penned Ms. Marvel is one of my favorite comic book runs of all time.

Elsewhere, Nova explains NASA's James Webb Space Telescope, the Solar Opposites attract for a third round, Wellington goes supernatural, Phoebe Robinson has Trash, David Attenborough dives under the sea, Netflix searches for D.B. Cooper, Craig has a visitor, South Park continues its march to War, and Nat Geo's SharkFest invades ABC with a Chris.

STREAMING & EARLY PRIMETIME

Craig of the Creek (Cartoon Network, 6 p.m.): Craig finds himself with an unlikely house guest when Jason the Junior Forest Scout sleeps over. Damn, squatters.

πŸ“Ί Darkwing Duck (Disney+, now): Relive some classic '90s animation with this superhero comedy that was feeding on the popularity of the recently-ended DuckTales -- but not quite a spinoff, depending who you ask. The show tells the adventures of Darkwing Duck and his alter ego the suburban Drake Mallard, who craves popularity. A reboot in currently in the works for Disney+.

D.B. Cooper: Where Are You?! (Netflix, 3 a.m.): LIMITED SERIES. "It follows the 50-year quest to find Cooper, the man who hijacked a Northwest Airlines passenger jet in November 1971 and escaped with $200,000." But will they actually find him? I'm guess not.

Days of Our Lives: Beyond Salem (Peacock, 3 a.m.): Wendy, Joey, Tripp, Paul and Andrew prepare to attend a gala DiMera is hosting to reveal a prism. Li and Gabi partake in romance. Hope reveals the truth about marrying Harris to Ben and Ciara while Bo attempts to intervene.

⭐ Ms. Marvel (Disney+, 3 a.m.): SERIES FINALE. Kamala probably has to fight some bad guys one last time. While the show's composition is quite "television," the story arcs aren't clear on just how much this show is only setting the table for The Marvels versus having a beginning, middle, and end to a television season. It's kinda disappointing, maybe.

πŸŽ₯ Never Stop Dreaming: The Life and Legacy of Shimon Peres (Netflix, 3 a.m.): In politics, most pursue power. He pursued peace. Shimon Peres’s influence and integrity were instrumental in the founding and preservation of Israel. This doc is narrated by George Clooney.

Solar Opposites (Hulu, midnight): SEASON THREE. I forgot this show still existed, which speaks to its memorability to me. It is Rick and Morty-esque with an alien family unable to decide if they like Earth. They also shrink people down and put them in a large containment that has developed into its own complex society of survival.✔️

πŸŽ₯ South Park: The Streaming Wars, Part 2 (Paramount+, 3 a.m.): "A drought has brought the town of South Park to the brink of disaster." The resources are so scare, the town can only watch Quibi, Anime Strike, Seeso, and Yahoo! Screen.
