What's On Tonight (Sunday): When calls the demons

Shining Vale

We're zany to the max! Here's what's on television for tonight, Sunday, March 13!

Our Top Pick tonight is the horror comedy Shining Vale (Starz, 10:12 p.m.) from Sharon Horgan and Jeff Astrof. After a scandal and suffering writers block, Courteney Cox moves to a possessed Connecticut house where she sees people, but husband Greg Kinnear and her two teenagers do not — a family that's faltering, too. The cast also includes realtor Sherilyn Fenn, mom Judith Light, and ghost Mira Sorvino. It's quite enjoyable but not that scary or that funny.

Elsewhere, critics give awards, Villanelle embraces Killing, Lyft challenges Uber, Bomani Jones has a Theory, Homer Simpson goes viral, The Great North produces The Perfect Storm, Red Auerbach gets charmed, and the Griffins remake HBO shows.

πŸ“Ί Animaniacs (Hulu, now): Dot is cute and Yakko yaks. Wakko packs away the snacks while Bill Clinton plays the sax. They're Animaniacs! The Hulu-distributed revival has become an excellent revival in its second season. The original is really damn good, too, though many of its references would be lost on kids today. However, the pure zaniness and critiques of plot devices and structures in unwaned. Watching it 25 years later, I get so many of the pop culture references that went over my 10-year-old head in its original run. Don Knotts, Bob Hope, the studio system, Goodfellas, the meaning of "good night everybody"... it all makes sense now. ✔️
