Somebody Somewhere |
Laws are made by men, carried out by men, and men are imperfect! Here's what's on television for tonight, Sunday, January 23!
Our top pick tonight is TV's latest grief-com Somebody Somewhere (HBO, 9:45 p.m.), but this one, which premiered last week, is pretty good. Sam (Bridget Everett) returned to her hometown to help her sister, who died six months ago, despite not meshing well with conservative small town Kansas. Sam, a gifted singer, is finding her way into an accepting, underground group: Choir Practice.
Elsewhere, All Creatures have arguments, Claws keeps the Feds at bay, Euphoria finds a business, CNN finishes Marilyn's story, Billions is back, SEAL Team exits Venezuela, Vienna Blood goes to the slums, NCIS: Hawai'i comes to Sunday, and 80 Days goes to India.
(All times are Eastern. All listings are new unless otherwise stated. For more listings, visit The Futon Critic or Zap2it.)

STREAMING & EARLY PRIMETIME
π₯ City Lights (HBO Max, now): I remember watching AFI's first 100 Years... 100 Movies special and when the silent masterpiece City Lights was discussed, Jack Lemmon offered some thoughts. He started to talk about the final scene but stopped because he immediately started to tear up. It's an appropriate response. The story of the famous tramp who wants to help a blind girl see is truly a crowning achievement in cinema.

π₯ Love on the Road (UPtv, 7 p.m.): A restaurant makeover show host tries to turn a small-town diner into a culinary landmark. Then she wants to bone the owner.

SEAL Team (Paramount+, 3 a.m.): SEASON FINALE. Bravo must make a daring escape before they can put Venezuela in their rearview mirror, but they find themselves on even less stable ground when they return home to Virginia Beach.
