What's On Tonight (Sunday): Bloody Sunday

Vienna Blood

Richard Kimble is innocent! Here's what's on television for tonight, Sunday, January 9!

Our top pick tonight is another import, this time Vienna Blood (PBS, 10 p.m.). The 1900s Vienna-set crime thriller pairs a police detective (JΓΌrgen Maurer) with a young Freud-taught psychologist (Matthew Beard) who solve tough cases despite their opposing approaches. It isn't that good, and PBS likely isn't helping by continuing to split its 90-minute episodes into two episodes.

Elsewhere, Kat gets the Blossom gang back together, the rap world needs Equalizing, Fox dives into grief comedy, Dexter is done (for good? for now? TBD), Euphoria returns with drugs, the Mayor resigns until next season, Yellowjackets throw a rager, and the Gemstones are back at the pulpit.

ON THIS SITE

Cancellation League (3 p.m.-ish): The Cleaning Lady. Good Sam. Abbott Elementary. American Auto. Grand Crew. Next Level Chef. Lots of shows premiered this week that could potentially get you those lovely points. (Or cruelly take them away.)

STREAMING & EARLY PRIMETIME

1883 (Paramount+, 3 a.m.): The group faces the harrowing task of crossing the river with their wagons and supplies. When I tried to do that, my oxen died.

60 Minutes (CBS, 7:30 p.m.): A shift in people's attitudes toward and expectations from their jobs... StoryCorps founder Dave Isay... Kickers in professional (American) football, including Justin Tucker.

πŸ“Ί How I Met Your Mother (Amazon Prime / Hulu, now): Before the streaming reboot premieres next week with Hilary Duff as the one who will meet Father, revisit the original series with Josh Radnor, Jason Segel, Cobie Smulders, Neil Patrick Harris, and Alyson Hannigan with Bob Saget narrating. Yeah, it wore out its welcome and the last seasons aren't good, but season two is still gold.✔️

πŸŽ₯ Love's Second Chance (UPtv, 7 p.m.): When Rose inherits her grandmother's vintage dress shop, she runs into her high school crush, Cole, who convinces her to restore the store.

Mayor of Kingstown (Paramount+, 3 a.m.): SEASON FINALE. Kingstown Prison descends into total chaos. Mike desperately works to help stop a riot that will have serious consequences for all involved.

πŸŽ₯ Raging Bull (Philo TV, now): As the violent and marvel boxer Jake LaMotta, Robert De Niro gives perhaps his greatest screen performance. But should it have lost Best Picture to Ordinary People? You decide. It was parodied on SNL last month.

SEAL Team (Paramount+, 3 a.m.): Jason must confront his deepest fears on the road to healing while Clay and Sonny are forced to take certain matters into their own hands.

WHAT ELSE IS ON
America's Funniest Home Videos (ABC, 7 p.m.)
Home Town (Discovery+, 3 a.m.)
How I Met Your Mother (via Gifer)

πŸ•— 8 P.M. EASTERN / πŸ•– 7 P.M. CENTRAL

Around the World in 80 Days (PBS): After surviving mahem in France, Fogg and his party cross Italy when their train comes to a halt. I guess they already ditched the balloon?

Call Me Kat (Fox): SEASON PREMIERE. The cast of Blossom reunites for a celebrity charity golf tournament. Meanwhile, Kat struggles with a romantic crisis. The show moves to its permanent Thursday home later this week.

The Equalizer (CBS, 8:30 p.m.): McCall becomes ensnared in a deadly battle between rival rap crews when she is hired by the wife of a famous rapper, Dilemma, to prove the musician is innocent of murdering a fellow artist.

Pivoting (Fox, 8:30 p.m.): SERIES PREMIERE. When psychologists advise not to make any big decisions, three friends (Ginnifer Goodwin, Eliza Coupe, Maggie Q) do exactly that and upend their lives in an effort to find happiness while there is still time, taking on the mid-life challenge they never saw coming. While the casting directing did A-level work, I'm not sure a broadcast network is the place for a grief-com. Like its lead-in, the show airs regularly on Thursdays.✔️

Power Book II: Ghost (Starz): Tariq reflects on where he is in his life and who he can trust. Brayden must decide whether to protect his family or help save Tariq's. Monet is faced with a new world order within her own family.

πŸŽ₯ Trapped by My Sugar Daddy (Lifetime): An 18-year-old creates a huge rift with her mother when she begins dating a charming and wealthy 50-year-old man who has sinister intentions. I'm sure we can all relate.

WHAT ELSE IS ON
90 Day FiancΓ©: Before the 90 Days (TLC)
πŸ’² Celebrity Wheel of Fortune (ABC): Marcia Cross, Karl-Anthony Towns, Anthony Anderson
Dirty Jobs (Discovery Channel)

The Real Housewives of Atlanta: Porsha's Family Matters (Bravo)
The Real Murders of Orange County (Oxygen): Season finale

πŸ•˜ 9 P.M. EASTERN / πŸ•— P.M. CENTRAL

All Creatures Great and Small (PBS): SEASON PREMIERE. It's springtime in the Dales, and James returns to Darrowby with an impossible decision to make and Helen on his mind. Tristan must figure out whether the truth is always the best option. Hopefully Tristan isn't only used as a plot device for over-indulged conflict like he was in the first season.✔️

Bob's Burgers (Fox): Louise realizes the new plan for student evaluating teachers has shifted the power at school from teacher to student. Bob and Linda find they don't agree on where their final resting place should be.

Claws (TNT): Desna opens up a second nail salon, but a rival salon owner soon demands a monthly payoff. Jenn's Oxy addiction spirals out of control as she forms a suspiciously close bond with Tony.

Dexter: New Blood (Showtime): SERIES FINALE. "Dexter and Harrison try to live a normal life in a place that they have discovered is not as normal as they thought it was."

Euphoria (HBO): SEASON PREMIERE. "A group of high school students navigates drugs, sex, identity, trauma, social media, love and friendship." That describes the show, not the episode, HBO.

Family Guy (Fox, 9:30 p.m.): "An accident leaves Peter with a high-pitched voice, so Jesus coaches him into fending off the choir boys. Stewie is attracted to Lois' new masculine physique." This sounds horrible.

NCIS: Los Angeles (CBS, 9:30 p.m.): The NCIS takes a case personally when Kensi is attacked and kidnapped by a mysterious militia group while helping a group of migrants cross the border. Quick, close the border!!

πŸŽ₯ North to Home (Hallmark Movies & Mysteries): "Sisters are reunited for a birthday celebration in Alaska, where they connect their past to their present." This sounds like Hallmark is trying to rip off my idea about Jingle Belle and Cassie Klaus, daughters of Christmasia Prime Minister Kris Kringle, who reunited in their northern home this holiday season.

The Righteous Gemstones (HBO): SEASON PREMIERE. As Jesse eyes a business opportunity with an Evangelical couple on the rise, the media cracks down on a fellow preacher. Eli reconnects with a figure from his mysterious past.✔️

S.W.A.T. (CBS, 10:30 p.m.): "The team must locate stolen rocket launchers smuggled into Los Angeles."

⭐ Vienna Blood (PBS): SEASON PREMIERE. In what looks like suicide, a Hungarian countess drowns in her bath in a luxury hotel suite, with scrutiny falling on her psychoanalyst Max Liebermann. Oskar teams up with Max to solve the case. Like last season, there are only three episodes, but they will air over six weeks.

Yellowjackets (Showtime): On the brink of death, the Yellowjackets opt to throw one last rager before careening into oblivion; an increasingly paranoid Shauna struggles between keeping her cool and being Shauna.

πŸ“Ί Mission: Impossible (MeTV, 3 a.m.): The IMF must break up a drug-smuggling ring. Bracken gets his drugs from Mexico compliments of Diego Maximillian, who gets his drugs legally from C.W. Cameron.

The Righeous Gemstones (HBO, 11 p.m.): After doubling-down on their efforts to invest in Zion's Landing, Jesse and Amber scramble for the cash. Eli's attempts to dodge a big-city reporter spell doom for the Gemstones.

Smiling Friends (Adult Swim, midnight & 12:30 a.m.): After beloved frog celebrity Mr. Frog gets into hot frog water, Pim and Charlie are tasked with helping the frog get things back on frog track. Glep has a crazy side adventure that has the critics going wild. Later, when a shrimp calls the hotline after being dumped by his true love, Shrimpina, Pim and Charlie have very different ideas about how to handle the situation.✔️
