What's On Tonight (Saturday): League of Arcane

Arcane

Let's rock 'n' roll! Here's what's on television for tonight, Saturday, November 20!

Tonight's Top Pick is the final three episodes of Arcane (Netflix, 3 a.m.). The League of Legends series tells the backstory to the game's two big champions (and sisters) Vi and Jinx (Hailee Steinfeld and Ella Purnell / Mia Sinclair Jenness). I find the series to be really good, though it is definitely not light-hearted. It's a trilogy; every three episodes tell an arc that are also part of a larger story at work. The sisters part ways, the underworld of Zaun rebels, and advanced technology could bring the downfall of the utopian Piltover. It's got a steampunk look to it.

Elsewhere, the misogynistic Rock and Roll Hall of Fame lets some women join, Soul Food gets competitive, Krampus attacks the Danger Force, Blade Runner finds more help, a billionaire helps a Side Hustle, NASA searches for Planet B, and its a night of Deadly Standoffs on Reelz.

(All times are Eastern. All listings are new unless otherwise stated. For more listings, visit The Futon Critic or Zap2it.)

STREAMING & EARLY PRIMETIME

Arcane (Netflix, 10 p.m.): SEASON FINALE. The Piltover leader has been ousted for not embracing questionable technology fast enough. The sisters have reunited, but the moment was short-lived as they are fighting for opposite sides and there are more than two sides in the conflict. A battle between the underworld and the city above is eminent.

πŸŽ₯ Armageddon (AMC, 7 p.m.): If you some Armageddon content that isn't the latest Flash arc, here is the absolutely terrible, awful, no good, very bad movie courtesy Michael Bay about an asteroid destined to destroy Earth. The movie remains one of the worst things I sat through at the movie theater.

πŸ“Ί Doctor Who (Retro TV, 6 p.m.): The Doctor discovers the life cycle of three closely related species on the planet Alzarius — the Alzarians, the Marshmen, and the Marshspiders — coming... "full circle."

Frankie Drake Mysteries (Ovation, 7 p.m.): When Trudy discovers that her new dream home has contaminated water, the gals investigate the source with help from nighttime vigilante, Lady Justice.

The Great Soul Food Cook-Off (Discovery+, 3 a.m.): SERIES PREMIERE. Eight chefs go head-to-head throughout in a competition, but only one competitor can take home the grand prize of $50,000.

πŸŽ₯πŸŽ„ Mistletoe & Molly (UPtv, 8 p.m.): My assumption is a couple gets some mistletoe, under which they take molly.

New World (Netflix, 3 a.m.): SERIES PREMIERE. A reality show from South Korea. Six celebrities devise strategies to earn virtual currency they can cash in on the final day of their stay on a utopian island.

BRIEFLYThe Baby Killer (Discovery+, 3 a.m., special); The Haunted Museum (Discovery+, 3 a.m.)
King Kong vs. Godzilla (via Imgur)

2021 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony (HBO, 8 p.m.): Inductees this year are: Tina Turner, Carole King, The Go-Go's, Jay-Z, Foo Fighters, and Todd Rundgren, along with Kraftwerk, Charley Patton, and Gil Scott-Heron plus LL Cool J, Billy Preston, and Randy Rhoads. πŸŽ₯ Abduction Runs in the Family (LMN, 8 p.m.): Alyssa was kidnapped as a child before making a safe return 7 years later. When her daughter gets abducted from a local park, Alyssa must rely on her former captor -- just released from prison -- to help save her. Somebody wrote this movie!

πŸŽ₯πŸŽ„ A Christmas Together with You (Hallmark Channel, 8 p.m.): In this diplomatic drama, the leader of the Yuleland, Belsnickel, begins the process to finally bring his region in as a full province of Christmasia. Kris Kringle and Belsnickel eagerly look forward to the Yuleland people having access to all that Christmasia offers. The country, its capital being the city of You, has been an unofficial satellite of Christmasia since before the War of the Third Noel, but it was never a part of the vast country. However, some provinces are putting up a fight because several sparsely populated ones might lose some power, like Evergreen and those that comprise the White Fox Plains. Many north Yulelanders are also skeptical and wouldn't mind seeing this process falter.

Danger Force (Nickelodeon, 8 p.m.): Danger Force sees an opportunity to make money fast by hosting Swellview's hottest music festival, but they catch a case of the Kramps when Krampus threatens to ruin their plans. At least no concert-goers will die?

πŸŽ₯πŸŽ„ A Kindhearted Christmas (GAC Family, 8 p.m.): To capture the holiday spirit, Jaime anonymously gives gifts to those in need. Word spreads and people in town wonder who this "Secret Santa" is. She remains anonymous and meets Scott. Jamie tries to keep her secret and pursue a new romance.

πŸŽ₯πŸŽ„ A Rich Christmas (BET, 8 p.m.): A spoiled and ungrateful socialite learns a valuable lesson one Christmas after her wealthy father forces her to work at the first property he ever owned -- a family homeless center.

Side Hustle (Nickelodeon, 8:30 p.m.): Tasked with getting Mouth Noise back together by the new town billionaire, the kids must put on an epic holiday concert. Sure, the billionaire making the underage children do the work.

πŸ“ΊπŸŽ„ The Year Without a Santa Claus (TBS, 8 p.m.): In the classic 1974 Christmas TV special, a weary and discouraged Santa Claus considers skipping his Christmas Eve run one year, but Mrs. Claus and his elves set out to change his mind.

πŸŽ₯πŸŽ„ You Make It Feel Like Christmas (Lifetime, 8 p.m.): Emma finds herself too busy to return home for the holidays, much to her father's chagrin. When her ex finds out, he tries to convince her to celebrate Christmas with her family. I think the ex should stay in his lane.

πŸŽ₯ Queenpins (Showtime, 9 p.m.): A housewife and her friend hatch an illegal coupon-club scheme that scams millions from corporations and delivers deals to the public. Hot on their trail is the unlikely duo of a hapless loss-prevention officer and a determined U.S. postal inspector.✔️

This Weekend in Pop Culture (WOT&Pop Culture, 9:30 p.m.): What pop culture have you consumed lately? This is our weekly thread for you talk about it.

πŸŽ₯πŸŽ„ Five More Minutes (Hallmark Movies & Mysteries, 10 p.m.): The Second Battle of Who Lowlands wasn't an exceptionally important battle. It ended as a Christmasia victory, but after many hours of battling Gen. Grinch's elite Dark Whos, a victory didn't seem likely at the time. Then Lt. Rudolph had an idea on how to force Grinch into a corner and retreat. He immediately got word out he would need "five more minutes." This movie tells the story of the battle and how all the troop leaders dealt with keeping the battle going for five more minutes, when for many, defeat seemed likely.

πŸ“Ί Riptide (Decades, 10 p.m.): Spend the weekend with this generic '80s action series clone, though I enjoy the theme song. "A member a gun smuggling racket goes to drastic measures to get rid of the head of the racket."
