Brian Wilson
He is frequently called a genius. Brian Wilson, The Beach Boys founder and principal songwriter/composer has been compared to Bach and Mozart by critics and music greats. Tom Petty said he is a once-in-a-generation artist. He has a gift of writing musical hooks that, unbeknownst to most listeners, rival most classically trained musicians. An artist's artist, his work is widely admired by those in the music industry. In 1966, John Lennon told Wilson that Pet Sounds was the greatest album ever made and it eventually inspired Lennon/McCartney to make Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band. It is worth noting that Wilson credited The Beatles' Rubber Soul as his inspiration for Pet Sounds.
Wilson is a Grammy winner, Rock & Roll Hall of fame inductee, and has been acknowledged for his lifetime contribution to the performing arts by the Kennedy Center. His life has run the gamut from extraordinary to heartbreaking. It is widely documented that he struggled with mental illness and addiction. Additionally, Wilson suffered abuse as a child at the hands of his father and then later in life by his psychologist, Eugene Landy. In recent years, Wilson has had success working solo and can still be seen touring the world playing his famous music.
