Occasional cooks: bad food and good food

Here is your weekly thread to talk anything and everything food.

Share what you're cooking this week, ask for tips or recipes for a dish, tell us about your meals out.

I bookmarked a few things this week, thinking I'd saved something good, including this 99 recipes we think will be huge this Christmas from Taste.

Turns out this is mostly weird garbage food! I'd still try some of it, but there's a hell of a lot of 'just five ingredients (and three of them are lollies)!' recipes here. Dessert lasagne, potato gems in bacon, no-bake cheesecakes and things cooked in muffin pans.

And Caramilk is definitely the ingredient of the day.

The French strawberry dessert cake above looks pretty good.

So I went looking for the opposite of all these recipes and landed at Gourmet Traveller. And I have to say, I would very happily eat this too, but it definitely fulfills the foodie quotient (you can soak your blanched almonds while you're hitting up the Japanese grocer for Kewpie mayonnaise, yuzu and miso).

What are the highs and lows in your kitchen this week?
