What's On Tonight (Saturday): The CW dares to defy modern television logic

iHeartRadio Music Festival 2021, Night One (Dua Lipa)

I think therefore I am! Here's what's on television for tonight, Saturday, October 2!

And they said it shouldn't be done! (And maybe it shouldn't.) Tonight, The CW, now 785 weeks old, is programming Saturday nights, the television dead zone of at least 20 years. This is something The WB and UPN never did. It kicks off the new night with its annual iHeartRadio Music Festival concerts. They took place a couple weeks ago. This is a television cut of select performers. Saturday! (IIRC, at its launch, Saturdays were unprogrammed on The CW so affiliates could air preempted programs.)

Elsewhere, we are live from New York for SNL's 47th season, the City Limits of Austin are back, Discovery+ goes inside Zak Bagans' Haunted Museum, Fena's Abel finds love, Princess Half-Demon slay a mountain god, Frankie Drake is back for her final run, Side Hustlers embrace fashion, and Poker comes to Vice.

(All times are Eastern. All listings are new unless otherwise stated. For more listings, visit The Futon Critic or Zap2it.)

STREAMING & EARLY PRIMETIME

Frankie Drake Mysteries (Ovation, 7 p.m.): SEASON PREMIERE. The fourth and final season begins. "The gals are on a spirited scavenger hunt, and a player is murdered. The case must be solved to find out if it is a case of killing off the competition or something more personal."

The Haunted Museum (Discovery+, 3 a.m.): SERIES PREMIERE. The creepy collection of haunted artifacts housed inside Zak Bagans' Haunted Museum are getting the spotlight in this new show.

πŸŽ₯ Joker (TNT, 8 p.m.): In Gotham City, mentally troubled comedian Arthur Fleck is disregarded and mistreated by society, but on a downward spiral of revolution and bloody crime he finds a path as his alter-ego: the Joker. Somehow, this mediocre at best movie won two Oscars. TWO.✔️

Side Hustle (Nickelodeon, 8 p.m.): SEASON PREMIERE. Lex, Presley and Munchy get hired as models during the town's big fashion week. Assuming that they were hired to be in the fashion show itself, they soon learn that the job is actually to be toy model builders and not the runway models.

NOTICES:
πŸŽ₯ Svengoolie (MeTV, 8 p.m.): Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein (1948)

BRIEFLY: πŸ’² Nickelodeon's Unfiltered (Nickelodeon, 8:30 p.m.); Outgrown (HGTV); Snapped (Oxygen)
Joker? Not The Joker. But my Joker.

πŸŽ₯ Love Strikes Twice (Hallmark Channel, 9 p.m.): Stuck in a stale marriage, a woman magically wakes up 15 years earlier and gets to decide if she'll choose the same man all over again. (And now I miss VH1's short-lived Hindsight. It was a good show!)

πŸŽ₯ North Hollywood (Showtime, 9 p.m.): Ryder McLaughlin must decide between choosing the future his father wants and following his dream of becoming a pro skater.

This Weekend in Pop Culture (WOT&Pop Culture, 9:30 p.m.): What pop culture have you consumed lately? This is our weekly thread for you talk about it.

BRIEFLYLove & Marriage: Huntsville (OWN); Pawn Stars (History); Stalked: Followed by Fear (Investigation Discovery)

πŸ•™ 10 P.M. EASTERN / πŸ•˜ 9 P.M. CENTRAL

NFL Icons (Epix, 10 p.m.): SERIES PREMIERE. Profiles of various NFL players who are legends. Probably. I don't know American football. First up: Brett Favre.

True Nightmares: Tales of Terror (Investigation Discovery, 10 & 10:30 p.m.): SERIES PREMIERE. The typical Investigation Discovery crime and suspense stories but with a twist of terror and horror for that special time of the year.

NOTICES:

BRIEFLY48 Hours (CBS); Family or FiancΓ© (OWN)

Black Clover (Adult Swim, 2 a.m.): The Magic Knight captains hold an emergency meeting, where a cryptic newcomer presents a plan to defeat the Dark Triad and recue Yami and Vangeance.

Fena: Pirate Princess (Adult Swim, midnight): Abel meets a mysterious girl, Helena, in the garden. As they spend time together, a deep love blossoms between them.

Food Wars! (Adult Swim, 1:30 a.m.): Brown sugar takes center stage as Erina and Momo begin the next round of culinary battles.

The first hour features Tom Dwan, Bryn Kenney, Nick Petrangelo, Brandon Steven, Rick Salomon, Jean-Robert Bellande, and Michael Schwimer. I only know one of those people. And not because of poker. Well, not that kinda poker.

My Hero Academia (Adult Swim, 12:30 a.m.): After Izuku Midoriya is bestowed with a 'quirk,' he enrolls in a super hero high school.

Naruto: Shippuden (Adult Swim, 2:30 a.m.): Kakashi is relieved of his ANBU duties and assigned as a Jonin Leader.

Yashahime: Princess Half-Demon (Adult Swim, 1 a.m.): Towa and Setsuna set off to slay an evil mountain god who has abducted a beautiful maiden.

πŸ“Ί The Rookies (Heroes & Icons, 2 a.m.): "The Rookies must find those responsible for holding up gun shops throughout the city."

πŸ“Ί That Girl (Antenna TV, 11 p.m.): Ann and Don discover that computers cannot always predict accurately.

πŸ“Ί The Time Tunnel (Decades, 3 a.m. / MeTV, 3 a.m.): On MeTV, the year is 1519, and Tony and Doug vow to slow down Cortez's conquest of Mexico. On Decades, you could endure a full weekend of this garbage show. In the 3 a.m. episode, a bomb is planted in the time tunnel, and the saboteur, Robert Duvall, leads Tony and Doug on a chase through three epochs. To be fair, this is probably the best episode of the series. IIRC, it is also the second and last time the two leads are on screen with the time tunnel scientists at the same time.

Saturday Night Live (NBC, 11:29 p.m., season premiere): Owen Wilson, Kacey Musgraves✔️
