Politics Corner September 3rd

Via National Park Service

Corporate America has been pretty silent so far on the Texas atrocity. This isn't surprising. Business is the art of making money, not making a difference. Corporations rarely act in the common good unless it's good for the bottom line.

There are a few bright spots. Earlier today we learned that Uber and Lyft were standing behind their drivers (for once) and will cover any fines. Lyft went an extra step and donated a million bucks to Planned Parenthood. And also today, Bumble and Match (Tinder) have each set up funds to help people affected by the new law. [NPR]

We're not done messing with Texas - and we won't be until Texas stops messing with people's rights. The House and the Senate Judiciary Committees are looking at responses to Texas (and expected bills in other states). You can expect something solid to come out of the House. The Senate is far less likely. [CNBC]

Biden ordered the declassification of documents regarding the attacks on September 11th, 2001. It won't be an information dump but a slow release over six months starting next week. [NBC]

If you got the Pfizer vaccine you should still be on schedule for a third dose. There looks to be a couple week delay for the Moderna while the data gets crunched. Johnson and Johnson is looking into a second dose. As far as I know no one is looking at cross-vaccination so make sure you stay in your lane. If you haven't been vaccinated yet, what the hell are you waiting for? [CNN]
