Nine Perfect Strangers |
We don't make mistakes, just happy little accidents! Here's what's on television for tonight, Wednesday, August 25!
Welcome to this blog's 732nd What's On Tonight! That means this has been our official home for longer than the Pop Culture Disqus channel was. Of note: This is WOT #339 for this TV season and #3290 overall.
Tonight's Top Pick is the limited series Nine Perfect Strangers (Hulu, 3 a.m.), based on Liane Moriarty's (Big Little Lies) novel. The series follows nine city folks of different backgrounds as they attend a 10-day "Mind and Body Total Transformation Retreat" that is run by Nicole Kidman, a Russian. Unlike The White Lotus, the retreat itself has a mysteriousness to it, and the characters have a lot (too much?) backstory to wade through. However, it isn't as strong as the unrelated-but-related HBO series. It has a fantastic cast — Melissa McCarthy, Michael Shannon, Luke Evans, Samara Weaving, Manny Jacinto, Grace Van Patten, Regina Hall, and Bobby Cannavale, among others.
Elsewhere, American Horror Story and Archer are back/still a thing, CMT remembers Charley Pride, a monster at Work isn't set on being a Jokester, Bob Ross gets documentary treatment, Discovery+ checks into rehab, Loki gets reimagined, Netflix contacts a abusive medium, Archie remembers his time with the army, and Batman visits Seth Meyers.
