What’s On Tonight (Thursday): “They made Tony Orlando seem interesting”

via Giphy

Tonight’s Top Pick is the Behind the Music revival, premiering on Paramount+. There will be “several new episodes and the best of the vault remastered and updated for today’s audiences.” It seems to me that the eight-episode series is tilting towards updates than new material. On the other hand, some people have had pretty significant life and career changes since their last episode.

Let’s see what TV has to offer us for Thursday, July 29. All times are EST.

STREAMING

Behind the Music, 3:01 a.m., Paramount+. Premiere. Ricky Martin, followed by LL Cool J. How many episodes does Ricky Martin need? His story was first told in 2000, then 2011 (after he came out). I am okay with LL Cool J getting an update. His story was last told in 2004 and there’s angles like his continued prominence by appearing on TV, plus receiving the Kennedy Center Honor. Two episodes available.

American Horror Stories, 12:01 a.m., FX on Hulu. “The Naughty List.” “A group of influencers face a reckoning after posting a problematic video online.” With Dyllón Burnside, Nico Greetham, Kevin McHale, Charles Melton and starring Danny Trejo as Santa. If I cared, I’d be curious to see how this differs from “And All Through the House,” Tales from the Crypt.

The Wine Show, 3:01 a.m., Acorn TV/Sundance Now/AMC+. Third season premiere. James Purefoy, Matthew Goode and Matthew Rhys are joined by Dominic West. Goode and Purefoy discover Portugal’s wines, while Rhys goes on a lunchtime wine tour of NYC. Seven episodes available.

Dr. Death: The Undoctored Story, 3:01 a.m., Peacock. Premiere. “(Offers) audiences the chance to hear and see the whole story, told by the real people who survived it.” Then what was the point of Dr. Death, Peacock? Four episodes available.

FBoy Island, 3:01 a.m., HBO Max. Premiere. “Three women move to a tropical island where they’re joined by 24 men — 12 self-proclaimed ‘Nice Guys’ looking for love, and 12 self-proclaimed ‘FBoys,’ there to compete for cold, hard cash.” Everything about this sounds sleazy as fuck. Three episodes available.

The North Water, 3:01 a.m., AMC+. “Homo Homini Lupus.”

The Good Fight, 3:01 a.m., Paramount+. “And the Two Partners Had a Fight…”

Gossip Girl, 3:01 a.m., HBO Max. “Fire Walks With Z.”

iCarly, 3:01 a.m., Paramount+. “iMLM.”

Why Women Kill, 3:01 a.m., Paramount+. Second season finale.

RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars (Untucked), 3:01 a.m., Paramount+. Title TBA.

Ultra City Smiths, 3:01 a.m., AMC+.

Jellystone!, 3:01 a.m., HBO Max. Premiere. “Set in the charming town of the same name, Jellystone! Follows an ensemble of Hanna-Barbera characters as they live, work, play, and (as is often the case), destroy the town in some silly way together.”

Martha Gets Down and Dirty, 3:01 a.m., Discovery+.
