Tig Notaro: Drawn |
Hello, this is Carlton your doorman. Here's what's on television for tonight, Saturday, July 24!
Tonight's Top Pick is the latest Tig Notaro special, Drawn. The special is fully animated, giving a visual to her comedy routine as well as any incidents that happen on the fly. I like Tig.
Elsewhere, BBC America goes to Untamed Borneo, the Stone Wars conclude on Dr. Stone, Rhoda gives New York its last chance, the Princess faces a demon resurrecting the dead, and global sportsballs are happening.
STREAMING & EARLY PRIMETIME
π₯ Icarus (Netflix, now): This Oscar-winning documentary finds and follows the Russian doping scandal and how, in the end, the International Olympic Committee opted to ignore recommendations prior to Rio. I find it a nice prompt to skip another Olympiad.
πΊ Rhoda (Decades, 7 p.m.): Spend the weekend with Rhoda in New York! During the weekend, you can see Rhoda and Joe meet, get married, and then divorce. (An excellent A.V. Club piece from yesteryear.) In this episode, not long after the wedding, mother Ida tells Valerie Rhoda and Marge Brenda that she is having chest pains, but not to worry, it is something that moms have to endure. Of course, Rhoda and Brenda drag Ida to the doctor's office to find out what is wrong. I love this show.✔️
BRIEFLY: The Globe (Discovery+, 3 a.m.); Love Island UK (Hulu, 3 a.m.)
π 8:00 EASTERN / π 7:00 CENTRAL
Eden: Untamed Planet (AMC / BBC America, 8 p.m.): SERIES PREMIERE. The latest BBC Nature series is narrated by Helena Bonham Carter. In this first episode, Borneo is the richest rainforest island of all. Home to 40,000 species of plants and animals, 6,000 of them are unique, and more are discovered almost daily.✔️
π₯ Freaky (HBO, 8:15 p.m.): After swapping bodies with deranged serial killer Vince Vaughn, young high schooler Kathryn Newton discovers she has less than 24 hours before the change becomes permanent.
π₯ Next-Door Nightmare (Lifetime, 8 p.m.): When young couple Sarah and Kyle move next door to Helen, a charismatic older woman, they have no idea she's a deeply disturbed psychopath who will stop at nothing to become Sarah's surrogate mother, and grandmother to the child she is expecting. This should have been called Psycho Neighbor.

π 10:00 EASTERN / π 9:00 CENTRAL
⭐ Tig Notaro: Drawn (HBO, 10 p.m.): SPECIAL. "The comic's animated stand-up special blends her fearless comedy with an entirely new medium as she recounts a hospital bed proposal and a high school talent show gone awry."✔️
