What's On Tonight (Saturday): I'll never put on a life jacket again

Shark Terror: USS Indianapolis

That's some bad hat, Harry. Here's what's on television for tonight, Saturday, July 10!

Tonight's Top Pick is helping us cool down from Nat Geo's SharkFest/gear up for Discovery's Shark Week. It is Reelz' latest documentary, Shark Attack: USS Indianapolis, which is a story you might've first heard about in Jaws. It was a real thing. "The sinking of Indianapolis resulted in the greatest single loss of life at sea from a single ship in the history of the US Navy." A sinking that went unnoticed and hundreds of men stranded for days without food or water and hungry sharks all around.

Elsewhere, Hallmark brings Christmas to the month of July, the Academia class battles end, a Force member is in love with an alien, trophies for sportsballs, Julia Stiles' lies caused too much damage, critters of Tokyo get the spotlight, The Monkees are coming to your town, and Food War rebels go silent.

STREAMING & EARLY PRIMETIME

Riviera (Ovation, 7 p.m.): SEASON FINALE. With Irina gravely ill, Georgina sees the terrible damage that her lies and actions have caused the family. Adriana reels with guilt and runs to the Elthams, while Christos begins to piece together the jigsaw puzzle of Georgina's lies.

Wild Tokyo (AMC+, 3 a.m.): SPECIAL. "It may be the largest, busiest, and most densely populated metropolitan area on Earth, but Tokyo's 38 million residents - a quarter of Japan's total population - share their home with an astonishing array of wildlife. From mesmerizing jewel beetles in the city's temple sanctuaries, to terns roosting on rooftops and redfin returning to the Tama River." This special airs on BBC America next Saturday.

πŸ•— 8:00 EASTERN / πŸ•– 7:00 CENTRAL

2021 ESPYs (ABC, 8 p.m.): Celebrating inspiring humanitarian efforts and the year in sports; Maya Moore is honored with the Arthur Ashe Courage Award. Anthony Mackie hosts.

Danger Force (Nickelodeon, 8 p.m.): Strange things start to happen to Bose when he finds himself in love with an alien.

πŸŽ₯ Frame by My Husband (Lifetime, 8 p.m.): A woman's wealthy husband becomes the target of an extortionist. She agrees to help him pay off the extortionist, but when the extortionist is found dead, she becomes the Prime Suspect.

πŸŽ₯ Jaws (Discovery Channel, 8 p.m.): Gearing up for Shark Week, Discovery presents a quintessential film that changed the movies. There's a killer shark causing chaos to a beach community, and it's up to a local sheriff, a marine biologist, and an old seafarer to hunt the unwater beast down. The town mayor proved to be a bit-too-perfect analogy to many places' response to the COVID-19 pandemic. And don't forget the Emmy-nominated making-of documentary.✔️

πŸŽ₯ Judas and the Black Messiah (HBO, 8 p.m.): Offered a plea deal by the FBI, William O'Neal (LaKeith Stanfield) infiltrates the Illinois chapter of the Black Panther Party to gather intelligence on Chairman Fred Hampton (Oscar-winner Daniel Kaluuya). He is revolutionary and so can you!✔️

Meerkat Manor: Rise of the Dynasty (BBC America, 8 p.m.): SEASON FINALE. Alone and at risk, evicted Sencha (aka Gretchen Wieners if you read my review a few days ago) is clinging close to her family in the hope of a reprieve until an unexpected lifeline presents itself in the shape of rover Lilac, who brings with him the prospect of a better life.

Shark Terror: USS Indianapolis (Reelz, 8 p.m.): SPECIAL. Visit a real life nightmare from World War II. The quick sinking of the USS Indianapolis left 900 men adrift at sea, hundreds of miles from land, battling the elements, man-eating sharks and even each other. Starving, exhausted, and desperate for water, the men cling to hope that rescue is coming soon. But no one even knows they’re missing.

Young Dylan (Nickelodeon, 8:30 p.m.): Dylan plays detective after an expensive vase is broken in the house, but no one admits guilt, and everyone is a suspect.

BRIEFLY: Cold Justice (Oxygen, season premiere); Vacation House Rules (HGTV)
Judas and the Black Messiah

πŸ•˜ 9:00 EASTERN / πŸ•— 8:00 CENTRAL

πŸŽ₯ Crashing Through the Snow (Hallmark Channel, 9 p.m.): Maggie and Sam are crashing Christmas. When he proposes that they team up against his sister's perfect Christmas, neither of them are prepared for the blended family challenges that lie ahead.

The Nineties / The Eighties / The Seventies (CNN, 9 p.m.): RERUN. CNN rebroadcasts the first episodes to its three decades-spanning docuseries (9 and 11 p.m. and 1 a.m.), which all focus on the television of their respective era. It might be a good refresher if you are gonna check out History of the Sitcom, which begins Sunday.

This Weekend in Pop Culture (WOT&Pop Culture, 9:30 p.m.): What pop culture have you consumed lately?

πŸŽ₯ Tremors (The Movie Channel, 9 p.m.): 6 DEGREES OF KEVIN BACON for $1000: Alex Trebek was in "Short Cuts" with Fred Ward, who acted in this underground peril film with Kevin (4 Mar 1998)

Hatcher Family Dairy (Nat Geo Wild, 10 p.m.): SERIES PREMIERE. In this new docuseries, the Hatchers, a sixth-generation dairy farming and veterinary family from College Grove, TN, lives and works to keep their family dairy farm and veterinary practice running.

πŸ“Ί The Monkees (Decades, 10:30 p.m.): Decades before St. Elsewhere and Community gave us large kernels of meta television on a weekly basis, there was The Monkees, often ignoring the rules of sitcom structure and breaking the fourth wall. In this episode, one of my favorites, the group attempts to save a circus from folding after discovering that it's in trouble. If you've seen Circus Boy, there's a great recurring meta joke.✔️
