What's On Tonight (Friday): Oh God, You Devil

Lucifer

TOP PICK

⭐ ๐Ÿ”” Lucifer✔️ (Netflix, 3:01 AM)  FINAL SEASON.  'Sandy has to navigate what aging looks like without his longtime friend Norman by h (Netflix, 3:01 AM) SEASON 5B.  'In Part B of the stunning fifth season of Lucifer, God himself comes to Earth. Secrets will be revealed, heroic sacrifices will be made, and the world will never be the same.'

I have been meaning to start binging Lucifer for a while now.  Hopefully I'll get around to it before the final season starts.

Elsewhere, it's a good night if you like basketball, hockey or college softball.

PREMIERES

The Kominsky Method

๐Ÿ”” Parot (Amazon Prime, 12:01 AM) SERIES PREMIERE.  'After the cancellation of the Parot Doctrine in Spain in 2013, more than 100 prisoners were released. However, as the days go by, the released prisoners appear murdered in the same way that their victims were, so the police Isabel Mora will try by all means to catch the murderer. The cast of the series is made up of Adriana Ugarte, Javier Albalรก, Ivรกn Massaguรฉ, Blanca Portillo and Patricia Vico among others.'

๐Ÿ”” Panic (Amazon Prime, 12:01 AM) SERIES PREMIERE.  'In the forgotten town of Carp, Texas, Panic is the only way out.  Every summer the gradating seniors risk their lives competing is a series of challenges for the chance to win life-changing money.  After the death of two players the stakes - and danger - have never been higher.  This summer twenty-three players will enter the game.  All of them will be changed.  Only one will win.  Let the games begin.'

๐Ÿ”” Launchpad (Apple TV+, 12:01 AM) SERIES PREMIERE.  'Disney’s “LAUNCHPAD” is a collection of live-action shorts from a new generation of dynamic storytellers. Six filmmakers from underrepresented backgrounds were selected and provided with the opportunity to share their perspectives and creative visions that will show audiences what it means to be seen. Inspired by life’s journey, these first six shorts for Disney+ are based on the theme, “Discover.”'

๐ŸŽฅ Plan B (Hulu, 12:01 AM) 'For Sunny and Lupe, the morning after pill is just the beginning.'

๐Ÿ”” The Kominsky Method✔️ (Netflix, 3:01 AM)  FINAL SEASON.  'Sandy has to navigate what aging looks like without his longtime friend Norman by his side. Life only becomes more complicated with the arrival of Sandy's ex-wife Roz. The pair's famously volatile relationship is further inflamed when she comes to L.A. to spend time with their daughter Mindy and her boyfriend Martin.'

Kominsky would have been the Top Pick but Lucifer just made for a better header GIF,  Even we here at What's On Tonight have to give the people what they want.  Alan Arkin left the show but Kathleen Turner is now a series regular and that seems like a decent trade off to me.

๐ŸŽฅ Dog Gone Trouble (Netflix, 3:01 AM) 'The privileged life of a pampered dog named Trouble is turned upside-down when he gets lost and must learn to survive on the big-city streets.'

๐ŸŽฅ Evil Stepmom (LMN, 8:00 PM) 'After setting up a dating profile for her widowed father, a teen uncovers a sinister secret about his new girlfriend and her young daughter.'

WHAT I AM BINGING THIS WEEK

๐Ÿ”” Stargirl (HBO Max)  "High school student Courtney Whitmore inspires an unlikely group of young heroes to stop the villains of the past.'

I went into this not knowing what to expect.  I knew this was originally on DC streaming and then popped up on CW when they got desperate for programming, but although this has some hallmarks of most CW programs this is most definitely is not just another CW superhero show.  For one, it looks way more expensive (the special effects are top shelf).  For another, the bad guys are genuinely frightening in a "no fucks to give" way.  I never doubted for a moment that they would straight up murder a 15-year-old girl and her friends.  Also, the cast is solid across the board.  Brec Bassinger makes a character that could have been annoying in lesser hands feel fleshed out but the real surprise here was Luke Wilson.  This is the best thing of his I've seen in years.  The first season is streaming on HBO Max.
