Sports! I think we've done an entry on songs about sports? I need y'all to check on that, because right now as I type this I'm half watching Eurovision so can't really do all that whole research while encouraging folks to vote France on social media. Anyways, this is not an article about songs about sports, but for songs who have represented sports. Songs for World Cups, songs for special teams, songs about players, and the like. It's close, but not that much. Let's get down to business!

Let's begin with my favorite band and the song they did a few years back to support the Welsh national team on the 2016 EuroCup. The team didn't do all that well, but it's a great tune, and all proceeds go to Welsh charities, so give it a whirl:
Coincidentally on this Eurovision day (at least when I'm writing this), the song chosen to represent France in 2010 was also chosen to represent the country at the World Cup. Catchy tune, but was the 2010 French team a tremendous embarrassment or what! They didn't even make it past the Group stage!
Speaking of the 2010 World Cup, or as I like to call it, The Vuvuzela Patience Show...
This fantastic Killers song is written about a specific event in Brandon Flowers' childhood when he watched a Mike Tyson vs. Buster Douglas fight and got heavily impressed by the defeat of his favorite boxer, so he connects that event to how his children may think of him in the long run.
To close with one of our regular closers, the actual content of the tune is NOT sports person based, but the actual title is, as Sir Elton requested Bernie Taupin to name the song after his good friend, tennis player Billie Jean King.
What's your favorite song about a sports event, team, or player? Who/what would you write a song about?
