What's On Tonight (Sunday): Hayley Atwell is a terrible, horrible, no good, very bad person

The Long Song

Be mine! Here's what's on television for tonight, Sunday, February 14!

Whew. TV is back. And tonight's Top Pick is PBS' latest import, The Long Song. It takes place in Jamaica the 1830s before, during, and mostly after its abolition. One slave is July (Tamara Lawrance), who Hayley Atwell took from her mom when she was a lil girl for herself. Hayley is also a very thirsty woman, but the man (Jack Lowden) she marries has an affair (and daughter) with July. Now, there are labor problems on Hayley's sugarcane plantation. The editing and pacing is bizarre and, at times, confusing.

Elsewhere, animation dominates again, Grand Ole Opry turns 95, Idol returns, Stanley Tucci tours Italy, Sam Heughan and Graham McTavish travels Scotland, Jason Biggs has some cherries, Abraham Lincoln gets docuseries treatment, Sheriff is on duty, Gotham has a Snake Bite problem, Milton Hershey is chocolate king, and Your Honor's court is adjourned.

⭐ The Long Song (PBS, 10 p.m.): Facing labor unrest and financial ruin for the plantation, Robert's sanity starts to unravel, with potentially devastating consequences for July. Caroline Mortimer (Hayley) doesn't do well with labor and isn't a good people person. Robert isn't a great mediator. I liked the first episode, but the second was bizarre. There were random time jumps that was pretty off-putting.
