Religion and music, what an iconic duo. Whether it is about musicians channeling their own religious feelings, reworking scripture into songs, or straight out quoting religious stuff, there's been plenty of songs out there who have strong religious connections, from all genres. Here are some of them.

As usual, I'll begin with the song mentioned in the article's subtitle, a fantastic reworking of the biblical tale of Lazarus, translated into the modern world.
This classic gospel tune was recorded and performed by various artists throughout the years since its first appearance in 1923. Here it is, performed by The Venice Four with Rose Stone and the Abbot Kinney Lighthouse Choir, for the soundtrack of the Coens movie The Ladykillers.
It wasn't just Nick Cave who modernized religious tales, as Franz Ferdinand in 2005 came up with the idea of having a new reincarnation of Christ arriving to present times, and what would stem from it.
