What's On Tonight (Sunday): John Brown's body lies a-moldering in the grave, but his truth goes marching on

The Good Lord Bird

Hello hello hello! Here's what's on television for tonight, Sunday, November 15!

Top Pick goes to the Showtime's The Good Lord Bird, a limited series about abolitionist John Brown that concludes tonight. I'm not caught up, but what I've seen it pretty darn good and at times great. The makes now qualms that Brown can be polarizing. Deeply religious and seeing violence as the way to end slavery, the show approaches the man with both drama and comedy, a good way to make him more accessible given he can be seen as a martyr or terrorist.

Elsewhere, the Royals are back, the Reagans gets docuseries treatment, Obama Netflix Book!, the people vote on pop culture, an oil field explodes, Madison Hamburg tries to solve his mother's murder, and Desus & Mero come to primetime.

The Crown (Netflix, 3 a.m.): SEASON FOUR. Presenting Gillian Anderson as the Iron Lady in this new season about your favorite Royals! Maybe this season will be good? Last season wasn't really that good despite an episodic budget that was probably more money than I've made in my entire life. At least there's still Helena Bonham Carter.✔️

With John Brown captured, Onion, truly on his own, risks his life to say his goodbyes to Brown. I think I appreciate the show most of its blend of light-heartedness and comedy at times to break tensions and to be able to look at Brown with some great self awareness of who he was and the era he was living in. Ethan Hawke, who is also a producer, has given some great interviews promoting the series.
