Totally Tunes: The Month Between August and October

It's September! Even though the cynical in you may think that it's just another month of this remarkably trash year, September tends to be a month most people like. Could it be because of the arrival of Fall (or Spring, in my side of the planet)? Could it be because it rolls off the tongue really funny (septmmmbrrrrr)? Nobody knows, but it's a beloved month, and music gives us more clues to this, as there are a lot of songs about September (and not related to any holiday! Suck on that, December!).

I'll begin this article with this absolutely amazing song by Sebalter, a melancholic tune about sadness and lost romance and yadda yadda yadda LISTEN TO THAT VIOLIN!

I'm pretty sure that the first thing that comes to mind whenever someone mentions September is this really fun, very cheerful song, especially because it's one of the catchiest, danciest pieces of music ever.

For Big Star's second album, the late Alex Chilton wrote this song, which you may also know for the cover the Bangles did in 1988. It didn't do well in the charts, unfortunately.

What is it with people associating September with break-ups? Like, a lot of people break up in this month? In here it's usually the opposite, young people meet on Dia de la Primavera bashes and relationships bloom. Anyways, here's a sad love song by Neil Diamond.

Let's wrap this up with yet another sad song, based on a very sad month in Billie Joe Armstrong's life. It is always such a bummer whenever someone decides to play it or add it to a playlist on a party. Why do you even, party guest?

Do you have a favorite song about September? How about songs about other months of the year?
