What's On Tonight (Sunday): There's lots of money to be made in P-Valley

P-Valley (via Tumblr)

Hey stranger! Once upon a time, long ago, tonight's Top Pick was going to be the closing ceremony of the Olympics or the NBC special preview of a fall show that was likely to follow. Then the plan was Taskmaster. Well, that's out. So... let's move up P-Valley., Starz' latest quality drama. P-Valley is about life at The Pynk, a Black strip club in the Dirty Delta (Mississippi). Sure, there is some skin shown ever week, but this noir-style show is unlike anything else on TV. These women, who work for Pynk's gender-fluid owner Uncle Clifford, take their craft seriously and are dealing with their own personal issues on and off the stage. The key stars are the talented and disciplined Mercedes, the club's top performer, and Autumn Night, a mysterious amateur who is running from a traumatic past. To elevate the show even more, the show oozes the life and culture of these Black people in the Deep South, from dialogue and slang to costuming and dance routines.

Elsewhere, I'm not saying TV will run out of new scripted shows on Sundays, but the volume is starting to decline. Perry Mason solves the case of that maybe dead baby and Dakota Fanning dons her last hat of the season, Endeavor is back, Lifetime joins in the Jeffrey Epstein docuseries fray, Mike Tyson helps kick off Shark Week 2020, History contemplates how the world could end, and Gwen Cooper Eve Myles is back on my TV screen.

Hank? Hope? Janet? Guys... Guys? Be seriously, don't joke around! Bring me up! Let's go! GUYS! Here's what's on television for tonight, Sunday, August 9!
