What's On Tonight (Sunday): Clear eyes, full bra, can't lose

Wynnona Earp

Greetings to all but especially you Earpers! After a looooong wait, Wynonna is back and now she's on prestige television night. Right where she should be! Honestly, in nearly two years, I forgot where we left off in this fantastic supernatural Western. The show takes place in Purgatory and follows the great-great-granddaughter of legendary lawman Wyatt Earp, Wynonna, who must protect the town from the reincarnated outlaws that Wyatt killed. But that was a while ago. She has an adorable but determined half-sister/angel, the eternal-living Doc Holliday, a young police officer, and a scientist among her inner-circle. An older sister was in the picture for a while, as was a U.S. Marshal, and various people who knew the Earps growing up. Making the show most special is the fact the team answers to no one. Wynonna operates independently; no government oversight or wise leader advising her. And currently, some of the team is MIA. While Bulshar was defeated and gun-turned-sword Peacemaker is back in Wynonna's possession, the Garden of Eden reached out through its lone door and took Waverly (but #WayHaught!) and since Wynonna (#WynHaught) is unable to enter, Doc goes after her. Oh, and Purgutary became vacant, so Sheriff Nedley and Wynonna have work to do. I love this show. Its sense of humor cannot be overstated.

Elsewhere, Autumn Night is now a Pynk regular, Robot Chicken experiments are revealed, Han Solo gets origin treatment, someone collects Lucy (10-year-old me is SUPER jealous), Charles Manson gets another documentary treatment, William Randolph Hearst hosts a ball on The Hat-ist, Perry wants to be a lawyer, PBS news' arts segments is now a series, and W. Kamau Bell spotlights the struggles of independent farmers in Oklahoma.

In the What's On Tonight justice system, the people are two separate yet equally important groups: the authors who spend a lot of damn time writing these WOTs and the commenters who go straight to the comment section. This is what's on television for tonight, Sunday, July 26!

STREAMING & EARLY PRIMETIME

John Lewis: In His Own Words (BET, 7:30 p.m.): SPECIAL. "Tracing John Lewis' momentous journey on the frontlines of history."

Law & Order πŸ“Ί (WE, 7 p.m.): In this season six (my favorite season!!!) episode, Larry Miller is a sleazy nightclub owner who crosses the detectives' path again when his second wife is killed. Most people suspect got away with conspiring to murder his first wife.

Solo: A Star Wars Story πŸŽ₯ (TNT, 6 p.m.): Remember this mess of a movie? At least Donald Glover is really good as Lando Calrissian. The movie isn't good, but it is better than The Rise of Skywalker.

The Untouchables πŸ“Ί (Heroes & Icons, 7 p.m.): Eliot Ness and his men had stemmed the supply of narcotics coming into the Windy City from Asia and southern Europe. Now the Underworld is using new ways to supply the city's 5,000 dope addicts.

FOR THE RECORDIt's Okay to Not Be Okay (Netflix, 3 a.m.); Snapped (Oxygen, 6 p.m.)

Kreizler is convinced that hypnosis might unlock the traumatic memories of SeΓ±ora Linares. Later, the team must locate baby Ana. William Randolph Hearst hosts a lavish ball celebrating his goddaughter's engagement to Moore. Bigger question: Does our beloved Whistler like this season??!

The Chi (Showtime, 9 p.m.): Kevin does not feel like celebrating on his birthday. Ronnie takes his grandmother, Ms. Ethel, on a whirl back in time. Emmett goes on a cannabis run with Tiff. Douda's campaign hits another speed bump when a past wound draws fresh blood.

πŸ•™ EASTERN / πŸ•˜ CENTRAL

Beyond the CANVAS (PBS, 10:30 p.m.): SERIES PREMIERE. The PBS NewsHour's arts segment CANVAS gets spinoff treatment in primetime. Hosted by Amna Nawaz, this series will feature a handful of profiles and stories in every episode. While it is great to see the arts covered at a time when several news organizations have cut or eliminated such coverage on a local/regional level, I hope this series doesn't get too high-pedestal artsy, which I find in a lot of NH's arts coverage.

Collector's Call (MeTV, 10 p.m.): A man shares with us some of his most treasured Lucille Ball acquisitions, including family portraits commissioned by Lucy.

Helter Skelter: An American Myth (Epix, 10 p.m.): SERIES PREMIERE. Some people think we need another retelling about Charles Manson and what he did. "After 50 years, the story of Charles Manson has become legend, but what's fact and what's fiction? Forget everything you've heard as Helter Skelter dives into the untold story of the most sensational murder spree of the 20th century." Untold?

I'll Be Gone in the Dark (HBO, 10 p.m.): Paul Holes, who is the chief of forensics in Contra Costa County, reconstructs the killer's family tree with the help of genetic genealogist Barbara-Rae Venter.

NOS4A2 (AMC / BBC America, 10 p.m.): Maggie puts herself in danger attempting to take a dark strong creative off the board. Vic and Lou work to repair Vic's knife. Linda and Chris grapple with Vic's gift.

Outcry (Showtime, 10 p.m.):  Greg Kelley awaits a final decision on his case from the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals. He and his supporters demand a probe into the Cedar Park Police Department and Det. Dailey for their handling of the investigation.

United Shades of America (CNN, 10 p.m.): W. Kamau Bell heads to Oklahoma to explore how politics and economic disparity are impacting families and independent farmers.

World's Biggest Great White? Expedition Hawaii (National Geographic, 10:18 p.m.): SPECIAL. Three great whites are spotted in the waters off Oahu, but another one could be lurking just below the surface.

⭐ Wynonna Earp (Syfy, 10 p.m.): SEASON PREMIERE. "Wynonna races to find a way into the Garden after her sister." But she can't get into the garden because she isn't so special anymore. Doc is already in the garden, so Wynonna will have to get clever. And she'll have some explaining to do because Peacemaker is now a sword.
