What's On Tonight (Sunday): Murder, mayhem and maritime laws in Hightown

Hightown (via Tumblr)
What up TV people! Tonight's Top Pick goes to the season finale of Starz's Hightown, a show that I'm probably the only one here watching. (Prove me wrong, please!) It's got your basic antihero vibe with Jackie QuiΓ±ones (Monica Raymund) as a National Marine Fisheries Service Agent who finally has to face the music about her drug and alcohol addiction, which is complicated when she finds a body on shore and realizes she has connections to someone who witnessed the murder. The investigation is led by Det. Ray Abruzzo (James Badge Dale), who is trying to nail drug kingpin Frankie Cuevas Sr. (Amaury Nolasco), who while in jail is cleaning house of anyone that could put him in prison permanently. Jackie is a gay woman of color, adding a nice spin to the worn out antihero trope, and then there's Junior (Shane Harper), the recovering junkie who wants out but the old bosses -- Frankie -- say no. It all takes place in Provincetown, Massachusetts, but despite the fun title sequence, doesn't dwell on the colorful settings after the initial episodes.

Elsewhere, docushows about the paranormal, mummies, trains, the Tampa zoo, and scary people return for new seasons. Plus, Snowpiercer loses some cars in the rebellion, History highlights Lincoln, a new Starz drama is set at a strip club, Sister Alice gets a stern talking to, there's boxing in Grantchester, Good Will Hunting gets Robot Chicken treatment, and Fox News takes a turn on Jeffrey Epstein.

The Setesh guard's nose drips, here's what's on television for tonight, Sunday, July 12!

STREAMING & EARLY PRIMETIME

60 Minutes (CBS, 7 p.m.): Four men face trial for bringing down Malaysia Flight 17 over eastern Ukraine... controversy over public monuments to the Confederacy... the modernized vision of West Side Story.

Doctor Who πŸ“Ί (Retro TV, 6 p.m.): In "The Invisible Enemy," an intelligent virus intends to spread across the universe after finding a suitable spawning location on Titan. And joining the Doctor and Leela is K9, who is a very good dog.

Law & Order πŸ“Ί (WE, 7 p.m.): Kincaid and McCoy are determined to convict both the man who shot an abortion doctor and the activist whose rhetoric may have encouraged the incident.

The Untouchables πŸ“Ί (Heroes & Icons, 6 p.m.): Gangland warfare has broken out again with sudden violence in the streets of St. Louis. Tim Harrington, who was long entrenched as the undisputed boss of the city, fights off the challenge to his leadership from Joe Courtney.

FOR THE RECORD: 9 Months with Courteney Cox (Facebook, 5 p.m.); It's Okay to Not Be Okay (Netflix, 3 a.m.); Snapped (Oxygen, 6 p.m.)
Law & Order (via Tumblr)

πŸ•— EASTERN / πŸ•– CENTRAL

Obsession: Her Final Vengeance πŸŽ₯ (Lifetime, 8 p.m.): Hoping to put the past behind her, young Madison now faces the wrath of Blake's vengeful and psychotic sister.

Black Monday (Showtime, 8 p.m.): Blair is forced to revisit his past, while Mo, Keith, and Dawn try to make amends.

Bunk'd (Disney Channel, 8 p.m.): It's "Manic Moose Day."

Columbo πŸ“Ί (MeTV, 8 p.m.): In the first Columbo pilot, psychiatrist Gene Barry uses a patient he is having an affair with to help him kill his wife, but his perfect alibi may come apart at the hands of a seemingly befuddled LAPD lieutenant, who dresses much sharper than he will in later versions. I want to know what the original stage production was like with Thomas Mitchell.

Gimme a Break! πŸ“Ί (Antenna TV, 8:30 p.m.): Antenna spends much of Sunday with this forgettable '80s sitcom about a Black woman who is hired as the housekeeper to a widowed police -- and his three daughters. In the season three premiere, daughter Katie thinks a piece of Andy Gibb's clothing will provide her with the ticket she needs to get into a popular clique.

⭐ Hightown (Starz, 8 p.m.): SEASON FINALE. Jackie and Ray try to return to business as usual after a depressing failure, only to learn the case might not be closed. After all, Ray is sleeping with the kingpin's girlfriend. But Junior appeared to be dead in that closing last week. The show features a case for an entire season, but it has proved many plot twist and turns to make it a journey worth the time. It's not a slow burn and plenty of the stories don't have good endings.

America: Our Defining Moments (History, 9 p.m.): In the mid-1800s, Abraham Lincoln is elected president of the United States, which is on the brink of the Civil War. Did you know Lincoln was a Republican? You probably didn't until I just now told you. Pretty amazing. Everyone's probably gonna be talking about it now. Later, Teddy Roosevelt steps forward, bringing fierce leadership on behalf of the working man.

The Chi (Showtime, 9 p.m.): Ronnie finds a new calling in his bid for redemption. Emmett lets his dad and his insecurities get the best of him. The mayoral race heats up when candidates Douda and Camille Halloway face off.

Autumn Night, a mysterious beauty with a harrowing past, washes up on shore of the Pynk, a strip club, seeking employment. Mercedes Sundayz, a night headlined by the club's OG, brings trouble. The cast is largely a bunch of up-and-comers, including Parker Sawyers (World on Fire), and has a recurring cast of Isaiah Washington and Loretta Devine.

Snowpiercer (TNT, 9 p.m.): SEASON FINALE. In the two-hour finale, the rebel forces are on the ropes when a dangerous foe defects to their side. They hatch a final plan to take control of Snowpiercer once and for all, but it comes at a grave, moral cost. In the revolution's aftermath, it's a bunch of shell-shocked survivors. For a simple maybe-spoiler, the final episode is titled "994 Cars Long." This show will return.

Yellowstone (Paramount Network, 9 p.m.): Beth shares a personal secret with Rip. John and the boys deal with some hostile trespassers from out of state. Rainwater reaches out to a powerful woman to help secure the future of Broken Rock. This episode it titled "We're Going Back to Cali" ♫ Cali ♩ Cali ♫.
