For our first song of the article, I'm gonna go with this absolutely positive (like, really goshdarn positive), fantastic Cliff Richard song, where EVERYONE is a friend, even the girl laying in the sun down at Monte Carlo...
In something wackier, we have this absolute banger of a tune by The Fratellis, in where the chorus drills you about friend John, a serious one, lazy old boy with burn-down soles.
You can also have this silly Eurovision bop, about a dude trying his best to pretend the girl he liked as a young man is totes water under the bridge now, like, a friend of a friend of a friend:

While The White Stripes were sure about making a new friend, this War song simply asks why can't we all be friends, which is quite the positive message, even though there are some folks out there you SURELY wouldn't befriend... like me, who instead of linking the War version, is embedding the Smash Mouth cover:
