Elsewhere, traditional TV program options are starting to dwindle, so I have streaming pick up some of the slack, especially given its the first of the month. There's also a fan-made recreation of The Princess Bride, a revival of Unsolved Mysteries, the return of a Finnish drama, and a racing docuseries. On the traditional television, In the Cut wraps up season six, the Bulletproof team digs deeper into their undercover action, SHIELD team faces many conundrums, and the road trip into prehistory and dinosaurs comes to an end. OH, and there will be some mid-year threads for your picks for the best movies and TV programs of 2020 thus far.
Join me. Perhaps you may be able to help solve a mystery, here's what's on television for tonight, Wednesday, July 1!
STREAMING & EARLY PRIMETIME
Best movies of 2020, so far (WOT&PC, 6 p.m.): A free space to sound off on what you find to be the best movies you've seen in 2020. If they weren't released in 2020, that's okay, too.
Best TV programs of 2020, so far (WOT&PC, 6 p.m.): A free space to sound off on what you find to be the best TV programs you've seen in 2020. If they weren't released in 2020, that's okay, too.
Annihilation π₯ (FXX, 7 p.m.): In this psychological horror flick, biologist Natalie Portman signs up for a dangerous, secret expedition into a mysterious zone where the laws of nature don't apply. It boasts an impressive cast: Jennifer Jason Leigh, Benedict Wong, Gina Rodriguez, Oscar Isaac, and Tessa Thompson.
Best in Show π₯ (Hulu, 3 a.m.): A classic Christopher Guest mockumentary set at a dog show and featuring a hilarious performance from the late Fred Willard. It is also many new titles now available on Hulu in July.
The Bounty π₯ (Amazon, 3 a.m.): This is pretty average remake of the classic Mutiny on the Bounty story. It is also one of the new titles now available on Amazon in July.
Chico Bon Bon: Monkey with a Tool Belt (Netflix, 3 a.m.): SEASON TWO. A monkey that talks?! Alert the little kiddos!
Cloud Atlas π₯ (Netflix, 3 a.m.): New to Netflix in July is this Wachowski flick, an exploration of how the actions of individual lives impact one another in the past, present, and future, as one soul is shaped from a killer into a hero, and an act of kindness ripples across centuries to inspire a revolution. I know some people here love this movie. I think it is a giant pile of crap. I hate this movie. But fret not, there are other new options that are also good, such as Airplane!, Frida, Mean Streets, and Poltergeist.
Deadwind (Netflix, 3 a.m.): SEASON TWO. This Finnish noir detective drama is back for season two. It stars Pihla Viitala, who maybe you remember from... Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters?
Home Movie: The Princess Bride (Quibi, 3 a.m.): This week and next, Quibi releases a fan-made at-home recreation of the classic 1987 movie that stars some high-profile Hollywood names. Why? I don't really know. It is bizarre, seeing a (cheap) movie remake released in segments rather than all at once -- TV episodic form vs singular motion picture form.✔️
Road to Race Day (Crackle, 3 a.m.): SERIES PREMIERE. Crackle is still a thing! This new docuseries gives viewers access to the intense and unique world of Hendrick Motorsports, NASCAR's winningest team. Sports!π️π️π️
Say I Do (Netflix, 3 a.m.): SERIES PREMIERE. "In this reality show, couples overcome obstacles to celebrate their love in surprise dream weddings designed by three experts in less than a week."
Under the Riccione Sun π₯ (Netflix, 3 a.m.): In this Italian romantic comedy, on holiday at Riccione beach, a group of teens get to know each other and help each other get through summer loves' heartache.
Unsolved Mysteries (Netflix, 3 a.m.): SERIES PREMIERE. On a night in July 2020, a classic series with a beautifully haunting theme song returned. Why this show, once a staple of Wednesday and later Friday television, opted to return now is puzzling. Yes, it's back! Because why not! "Immersive, character-driven stories are rooted in the experiences of ordinary people who have lived the unthinkable. Families, detectives and journalists hope viewers hold the clues to solving these"... unsolved mysteries.✔️
Watchmen π₯ (HBO Max, 3 a.m.): While there isn't going to be a second season of the series, you can now revisit the wildly mediocre 2004 movie. It is also one of many new titles now available on HBO Max in July.

Singin' in the Rain π₯ (TCM, 8 p.m.): Singing and dancing and an excellent story. One of the shames of AMPAS is its lack of more Oscar nods. "Lina. She can't act, she can't sing, she can't dance. A triple threat."
