What's On Tonight (Friday): "Homecoming" Comes Home For Season Two

Via Giphy

(Awww you should've have!!!) ("Home For Thanksgiving") If you thought there wasn't too much on the networks yesterday, boy you havn't lived til you've seen the nothing that's on tonight here---but that's why the various streaming sites have all staked out a claim on the night then I guess. This is What's On for May 22nd 2020

Streaming

Homecoming (Amazon Prime): Top Pick has pretty much gotta be this much hyped show from either last year or possibly year before last since it returns for its 2nd season tonight---I'm guessing since she's not in the ads for it that i've seen, it no longer stars Julia Roberts??? I honestly don't know cause I didn't actually the show's first season, but i remember quite vividly the massive ad campaign that Amazon rolled out on its behalf. It seems like this season is to star Janelle Monae with some assist from Chris Cooper, Joan Cusack, and Marianne Jean-Baptiste--season 1 co-star Stephen Nathan looks to remain with the show so there will be some sense of continuity at least amongst all the new characters here.

The Lovebirds (Netflix): This movie was originally supposed to come out in April but got bought by Netflix instead "On the brink of breaking up, a couple gets embroiled in a bizarre murder mystery. As they get closer to clearing their names and solving the case (why is it their job to solve the case???) they need to figure out how they and their relationship can survive the night" Directed but not written by Michael Showalter (you all know who he is right? of course you do!) (writer of Wet Hot American Summer and director of The Big Sick and My Name Is Doris and The Baxter!) This stars Kumal Nanjiani as well as Issa Rae and Anna Camp. (ooh Kyle Bornheimer is in it too!)

Control Z (Netflix): Not to be outdone but Netflix has a couple of series premiering tonight but odds are good that like me, you have no idea what they are. This is a Mexican teenage drama series for example. (oook)

History 101 (Netflix): New informative docu-series about some historical event being covered in-depth for one episode at a time. (So its like Wiki Wormhole The Series then???)

Selling Sunset (Netflix): Reality show about real estate sellers in Los Angeles. (Who Asked For This???)

Trailer Park Boys-The Animated Series (Netflix): Pretty self explanatory (Hey I bet RockRocky will at least give this one a go right?)

The Big Fib (Disney Plus):  New family oriented game show hosted by Yvette Nicole Brown and Rhys Darby plays her robot sidekick (!!!!) Based on the podcast "Pants On Fire" (Can you make a gameshow based on a podcast??? I guess the answer to this is apparently???)

Mythic Quest--Raven's Banquet (Apple TV)--apparently this is being bill as a "special presentation" as it has the episode title of "Quarantine" attached to it, so i can only assume that this is gonna be one of those characters interacting over Zoom things.

Defending Jacob (Apple TV) Still having their weekly episode put up--this is episode 7 of the ongoing drama show.

The Split (Sundance Plus): Second Season Premiere of this show.

Broadcast

MacGyver (CBS): Rerun of the time the gang had to protect a gun sniffing dog who has had a bounty placed on its head. (Oh Nooo!!!!)  (Also didn't this show get a full 22 episode order? They only aired 13--were they only able to produce 13 episodes before the shutdown or did CBS just decide to hold on to the rest of the season's order to have something to air in the fall?)

Jack Black's Escape Room (NBC): Rerun of the premiere from Thursday night.

Shark Tank (ABC): Rerun! (Ohh Summer!)

Friday Night Smackdown (FOX): Not A Rerun! But you know does it even matter???? HOCKEYMIKE ITS FRIDAY ONCE AGAIN!!!!

Masters of Illusions (The CW): More tricks, more Penn and Teller---i think?? Is this one hosted by them?

AKA Jane Roe (FX): Two hour documentary airing on FX for some reason about the life and times of Norma McCorey---aka Jane Roe whose unplanned pregnancy led to the infamous 1873 Supreme Court ruling making abortions legal in this country; However later on in her life, Norma/Jane became an anti-abortionist activist  which would seem to be the exact opposite of what she was earlier in her life. Norma/Jane also narrates her own life story--so expect to hear in her own words why the change in stance on the matter. (For those of you who are interested in that kind of thing of course)

RuPaul's Drag Race (VH1):

Christmas at Pemberley Manor (Hallmark) "A rich man falls in love with Christmas and a party planner in that order exactly" Starring Jessica Lowndes and Michael Rady. (Don't Be Rady!)

9:00

Magnum PI (CBS): Rerun of the season premiere that found Magnum taking the case of a missing wife who witnessed her boss's murder during a bank robbery and is now well missing.  (Magnum!!!)

Dateline (NBC):

20/20 (ABC):

Whose Line? (The CW): Heather Ann Campbell in a rerun from last July. (The 9:30 one is Chris Jackson)

American Masters (PBS): Rerun of the Sammy Davis Jr one (which is great, but has also reran several times in the past year) Narrated by Billy Crystal!

Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives (Food): More conversations and recipes recalled by 4 more chefs via zoom during quarantine lockdown---tonight we got them talking about a funky waffle from Syracuse, a cool bowl of mac and cheese from Cleveland, and some California smoked turkey and smoked chilly pork. (Nice!)

All On The Line (Discovery): 2 Gloucester fishing boats hunt for giant bluefin tuna together. This is the series premiere btw!

Gomer Pyle (MeTV): Its that one again where he poses for pictures and is then upset to find those pictures have been altered to make it look like he's been chasing women at the beach which he most certainly has not been, no sireee!

9:30

Green Acres (MeTV): Oliver and Lisa try to help their neighbor when she goes into labor. (Oh that old sitcom chestnut) (Morris Chestnut???) (No I said Sitcom Chestnut) (Ohh)

10:00

Blue Bloods (CBS): Rerun ep from March (MARCH???) that finds Jamie's vest discovered on a dead body (How'd that happen???); Frank trying to help a friend whose home had been invaded; and Danny and Baez working the death of a hotel employee. (Oh I remember this one now--i think!)

Real Time with Bill Maher (HBO): Look something else has to get listed in the hour, it can't just be a rerun of Blue Bloods being the sole occupant of the ten o'clock hour here right???

11:00

Betty (HBO): The teen girl skateboarding continues with "The Tombs" as Janey must do the right thing while Kirt checks herself (presumably before she wrecks herself)

OHHHHH HAVE A GOOD WEEKEND EVERYBODY---OR AT LEAST TRY TO HAVE A GOOD WEEKEND--IT IS MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND SO WE ALL GOT A THREE DAY WEEKEND--WELL THOSE OF YOU WHO WORK HAVE A THREE DAY WEEKEND AT LEAST...SO MIGHT AS WELL TRY TO ENJOY IT AS BEST YOU CAN!
