What's On Tonight (Sunday): In Los Angeles, NCISers help former NCISers

NCIS: Los Angeles (via Giphy)
Happy Sunday everyone! [*checks calendar*] Yep, I was right. Sunday. In the listings, you will note a lot of theme songs are listed. Well, that's because tomorrow's Totally Tunes (by our beloved Whistler and drops at 1:30) is all about your favorite theme songs. So get ready! Anyway, tonight's Top Pick goes to the long-running NCIS: Los Angeles, which airs its penultimate episode tonight. Why tonight? Eh, it was a flexible week — and Hetty twisted my arm. Is she sorry? Of course not. This is the first time the show has ever been a standalone Top Pick. Elsewhere, the Chicago Bulls begin their quest to win a sixth NBA title in eight years, NASA's Hubble Space Telescope is celebrated, Spider-Man is back, Winnie the Wyvern has returned, drag queens help people with makeovers, and the war in Afghanistan gets documentary treatment. Yabba-dabba do, here's what's on television for tonight, Sunday, April 19!

STREAMING / EARLY PRIMETIME

60 Minutes (CBS, 7 p.m.): Reporting tonight on: dealing with the bodies from COVID-19 deaths in New York, chef Jose Andres' work to feed those most impacted by the pandemic, and Japan's centuries-old theater art of kabuki that is marked by elaborate makeup and stylized dances.

Call the Midwife (PBS, 8 p.m.): Four new doctors arrive at Nonnatus House, causing a stir among the midwives. Fred makes a discovery while on rounds. While the show fell out of favor with me, I really love the theme song with its mixture of string of techniques.✔️

Duncanville (Fox, 8:30 p.m.): When all of Jack's customers are stolen by a sexy new plumber, he quits his day job to follow his dream and write a rock opera. He casts his family and books the town theater for a live performance.✔️

Bob's Burgers (Fox, 9 p.m.): Tina goes to see Josh perform in a tap show and suspects sabotage when he's injured on stage. Gene must have named this episode personally. "Tappy Tappy Tappy Tap Tap Tap."✔️

Homeland (Showtime, 9 p.m.): In the penultimate episode, "Saul uses back channels. Carrie needs one more favor." While the theme song has stayed the same, the soundbites change and ones from the first three seasons are my preference.✔️

Killing Eve (AMC / BBC America, 9 p.m.): Eve and Carolyn are reeling. Eve strikes up an unlikely alliance with Kenny's colleagues at the Bitter Pill. Villanelle finds that management isn't all it's cracked up to be.

The Last Dance (ESPN, 9 p.m.): SERIES PREMIERE. In the fall of 1997, Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls begin their quest to win a sixth NBA title in eight years. But "The Last Dance," as coach Phil Jackson called it, will be shadowed by tension with the club's front office. The season begins without Scottie Pippen, who is injured and has a contract dispute that reaches a fever pitch as the team gets off to one of the worst starts of its championship runs.

⭐ NCIS: Los Angeles (CBS, 9 p.m.): The team helps a former NCIS tech operator search for her missing ex-partner, whom they fear might be working with the gun runners they failed to take down years ago. Deeks reels when his bar gets a negative review. Next week, in the season 11 finale, Sarah MacKenzie is back! Also... season 11??!

Spider-Man: Maximum Venom (Disney XD, 9 p.m.): PREMIERE. Spider-Man is back in action and now called Spider-Man: Maximum Venom. When Spider-Man and Max Modell experiment on a sample of the Venom symbiote to advance the medical industry, the symbiote escapes and unleashes a weapon of unknown purpose.

Westworld (HBO, 9 p.m.): Tonight, HBO reaches a new peak in helpful episode descriptions. Let me tell you, HBO knows how to sell its prestige programs that don't make them seem self-righteous or egotistical. The description reads: "Therapy." (The episode title, "Decoherence," is longer on a character level.) (I don't really like the show, but I admire the title sequence.)✔️

World on Fire (PBS, 9 p.m.): Tom fights for his life on board the HMS Exeter. Harry and Lois have a more personal battle to fight.

Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist (NBC, 9 p.m.): Zoey surprisingly finds herself getting into major conflict with Simon, Max, Mo, and Howie. Hashtag drama! πŸ•™ EASTERN / πŸ•˜ CENTRAL

Baptiste (PBS, 10 p.m.): "Julien is shocked to learn the true identity of Edward Stratton."

Deadline to Disaster (The Weather Channel, 10 p.m.): SERIES PREMIERE? This maybe new series is about scary weather. I think. In the opener, warm weather in Canada triggers six tornadoes in a matter of hours, one cutting a path of destruction through Ottawa.

The Flintstones πŸ“Ί (MeTV, 10 p.m.): Fred and Wilma go on a second honeymoon. A classic theme song.✔️

The Longest War πŸŽ₯ (Showtime, 10 p.m.): The human stories and drama behind America's involvement in Afghanistan, which is now the longest war in U.S. history. The documentary features interviews with intelligence operatives, soldiers, families, Afghan officials, journalists, and government and military officials.

NCIS: New Orleans (CBS, 10 p.m.): FINALE. The team investigates the death of a Naval microbiologist whose hobby as a "myth buster" resulted in his death at the hands of a legendary bayou creature. Agent Khoury conducts an investigation into previous actions of Deputy Director Van Cleef.

Corinne is a tough wrestler who hides her insecurities behind her wrestling persona. The Queens give her a bridal transformation with the confidence to be her true self on her wedding day.

Star Trek: Voyager πŸ“Ί (Heroes & Icons, 11 p.m.): Claiming to be a long-dead crewmember, an alien requests asylum on Voyager.✔️

Wings πŸ“Ί (Antenna TV, 11 p.m.): When digging through the rubble of Helen's home, Brian and Casey unearth a suitcase and photograph that had been the Hackett brother's only inheritance from their late father. However, Brian's attempts to remind Joe of that fails, but Joe later sees a vision of his late father. Meanwhile, Antonio takes his revenge on Brian and Casey and Helen takes out her anger on Casey's clothes. Oh how I love Shubert's Piano Sonata No. 20.✔️

FOR THE RECORDCaribbean Life (HGTV)

πŸ’€πŸ’€πŸ˜΄πŸ’€πŸ’€

Beef House (Adult Swim, 12:15 a.m.): While Tim practices for his upcoming darts championship, a beaver plagues the Beef House and only one item will lure it out.

One Day at a Time πŸ“Ί (fetv, 2 a.m.): Ann has a new highly motivated competitor in her office, Miss Francine Webber, aka Shelley Fabares in her series debut. The new theme song variation has grown on me, but the original remains one of my '70s favorites.✔️

Three Busy Debras (Adult Swim, midnight): Debra, Debra and Debra welcome a very cool visitor, Barbra, who threatens to tear Debra and Debra away from Debra.

LATE-NIGHT TALK & SATIRE

Last Week Tonight with John Oliver (HBO, 11 p.m.)
