What's On Tonight (Sunday): At the end, Carrie needs to call Saul

Homeland (via Giphy)
Shalom! It is time to say goodbye to Showtime's espionage thriller Homeland, a show with a masterpiece first season that could never be outdone. It took a couple more seasons for the show, which is based on an Israeli show, to fully morph to a better espionage drama that could leave the aftermath of season one behind, and then it became a better show. This final season has been a return to Homeland's double-agent origins with mixed results, but I still like it. It's kinda like The Handmaid's Tale, a brilliant first season, but I'll argue a good amount of the praise is the ability to overlook some of the campy-ness and improbable twists, which latter seasons must embrace. In this final episode, I predict Carrie and Saul become lumberjacks. Elsewhere, God unfriends CBS, Kate Kane is on duty again, more magic and murder TV nonfic shows debut, Vida returns for a final season, and Penny Dreadful is back in action (50 years later). She missed something before. She can't let that happen again, here's what's on television for tonight, Sunday, April 26!

Family Guy (Fox, 9:30 p.m.): With a newfound love for rocking out to Van Halen, Peter has a car accident and falls into a coma.

⭐ Homeland (Showtime, 9 p.m.): SERIES FINALE. Oh, Homeland. A show that has been all over the place during its run. However, I'll stick up for the show. The landings didn't always work (especially season 6), but the rides often had some good thrills. The show was never great at showing the personal side of these spies and their advesaries, but I often enjoyed the canvasses painted about how deals were struck and the behind-the-scenes political fighting. If you wanna see how I rank the show's seasons, head to PCW. SNL's Homeland skit is pretty pitch perfect and Carrie is at times a really poorly constructed character. This season's Russian story has been a dud, but the rest is quite enjoyable as popcorn entertainment. In this finale, Carrie needs to kill Saul and then out his Russian asset so she get evidence that will stop a war between the Pakistan and the U.S. Or maybe she finds another way? The premise for the season (peace in Afghanistan) was far-fetched, but it grew on me as the plot shifted. Carrie as a secret Russian puppet (nodding to season one)? Not so much.✔️

Killing Eve (AMC/BBC America, 9 p.m.): Villanelle agrees to a job which will take her back to London. Meanwhile, Carolyn's Moscow contacts come in use when Eve and the Bitter Pill team unravel a potential lead to The Twelve.

The Last Dance (ESPN, 9 p.m.): Once a key member of the hated Detroit Pistons "Bad Boys" championship teams that brutalized Michael Jordan, Dennis Rodman is virtually all Jordan can count on in the early months of the 1997-98 season. Later, in what management insists is Phil Jackson's final season in Chicago as the Bulls' head coach, he continues to seem like the only one who can steer this unique, singular collection of talent to another title.

Vida (Starz, 9 p.m.): PREMIERE. This half hour drama about two Mexican-American sisters, Emma and Lyn, from the Eastside of Los Angeles premieres for a third and final season.

Westworld (HBO, 9 p.m.): I'm pleased to report that HBO read my complaint last week because this week's summary says: "A real friend is one who walks in when the rest of the world walks out." Still vague, of course. But there are many more words. Episode title: "Passed Pawn."

World on Fire (PBS, 9 p.m.): Harry's courage is tested at Louvain. Kasia's resistance activity in Warsaw intensifies.

Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist (NBC, 9 p.m.): Zoey has to figure out a clever way to help her mother with an impossible decision. Expect tears. Meanwhile, Max bonds with Leif, and Mo hits a rough patch with Eddie.

Penny Dreadful: City of Angels (Showtime, 10:10 p.m.): SERIES PREMIERE. 50 years after the first series... "1938 Los Angeles is a time and place deeply infused with social and political tension. When a grisly murder shocks the city, Detective Tiago Vega and his partner Lewis Michener become embroiled in an epic story that reflects the rich history of Los Angeles: from the building of the city's first freeways and its deep traditions of Mexican-American folklore, to the dangerous espionage actions of the Third Reich and the rise of radio evangelism. As the two await check-in at a lavish hotel, Ruby meets an exciting woman at a department store, while Billy tries to handle a relentless Fiona. The episode is titled "F**k." I wonder what the "**" are omitting.
