What's On Tonight (Wednesday): Chasing your dreams in your Twenties

Twenties (via Giphy)
Hi! Tonight is the premiere of Lena Waithe's latest TV project, Twenties, which is inspired by her experiences of trying to make it in Hollywood. The show is about a queer African American screenwriter and her friends who are all twenty-something and trying to figure out life. With some newcomers, including series lead Jonica T. Gibbs, it also boasts a great supporting cast and the showrunner is Susan Fales-Hill, who got her start at A Different World. Elsewhere, Lil Dicky brings some rapping weirdness to FXX, the Party of Five family is on edge, on Food Network begins a new competition series, Amy Hoggart experiences Miami, a documentary is being made about Riverdale, and Lego builders build this city. Holy moly, Stromboli, here's what's on television for tonight, Wednesday, March 4!

STREAMING / EARLY PRIMETIME

Fundamental. Gender Justice. No Exceptions. (YouTube, 3 a.m.): SERIES PREMIERE. The first of a five-part docuseries about activists from five countries who are disrupting the status quo -- including ending child marriage in Pakistan, to pursuing LGBTQI liberation in Georgia, and racial justice in the United States.✔️

Jeopardy! ðŸ’² (Syndicated, check your local listings): New champ as of yesterday, yada yada yada. I miss MacKenzie.

FOR THE RECORDMarried at First Sight: Unfiltered (Lifetime, 7:30 p.m.)

🕗 EASTERN / 🕖 CENTRAL

Chicago Med (NBC, 8 p.m.): A convicted murderer's escape hits close to home when several team members end up in danger. Sounds like a job of P.D.? Dr. Choi and April discover the truth about a patient's scam.

Doctor Who ðŸ“º (Retro TV, 8 p.m.): The Doctor, Jamie, and Zoe (power trio!), along with the technicians Gia and Phipps, try to prevent the Ice Warriors' plot to make the Earth's atmosphere inhospitable to humans but viable for the Ice Warriors to invade.

The Masked Singer (Fox, 8 p.m.): T-Pain is the guest judge. Also, T-Pain is still a thing.

Party of Five (Freeform, 8:30 p.m.): FINALE. I feel comfortable in calling this remake better than the original, which I may revisit this summer. The young kids are in Mexico and see their parents' marriage is starting to whither. All their relationships are already strained. Val makes a surprising request, with lasting repercussions. Ella surprises Beto in Mexico. Lucia goes out of her comfort zone, and Emilio leans on Natalia when the family's social worker returns. (It doesn't feel to far removed from where Kidding has gone this season.)

Riverdale (The CW, 8 p.m.): Alice begins shooting a documentary about Riverdale and the latest mystery involving one of its own. Oh, a documentary! Betty, Archie, and Veronica fall deeper into a web of lies as the investigation gets underway.

Survivor (CBS, 8 p.m.): Episode title: "I Like Revenge."

Volcano Live! with Nik Wallenda (ABC, 8 p.m.): Some guy named Nik Wallenda attempts the 1,800-foot walk over the active Masaya volcano in Nicaragua — his longest and most dangerous yet. And it's live! Non-sweeps TV events!✔️

🕘 EASTERN / 🕗 CENTRAL

Chicago Fire (NBC, 9 p.m.): Boden is on edge after starting a new fad diet, perhaps trying to take over the station. Brett's birth mother shares life-altering news. A familiar face has a proposition for Herrmann.

Lego Masters (Fox, 9 p.m.): The contestants are suppose to build this city block on a Lego base and with Lego blocks.

Nancy Drew (The CW, 9 p.m.): In "The Terror of Horseshoe Bay," with time running out before Carson's evidentiary hearing, Nancy turns to supernatural sources in a last-ditch effort to find clues to exonerate her father. I suggest she call John Constantine.

SEAL Team (CBS, 9 p.m.): In the episode "Fog of War," the team sits down grills the ghost of former Secretary of Defense Robert McNamara about his time... Wait. Cancel that. Bravo Team conducts a review to identify who's responsible for a possibly career-ending mistake after a mission failure.

Sistas (BET, 9 p.m.): Gary swoops in to help Andi in the nick of time. Sabrina helps Maurice prepare for an exciting event. Danni has to decide her feelings about her new situation.

Awkwafina Is Nora from Queens (Comedy Central, 10:30 p.m.): Nora competes with Edmund (Bowen!) for their grandmother's affection. I'm already laughing. Wally creates an Instagram account to impress his crush.

Chicago PD (NBC, 10 p.m.): An armed robbery case quickly turns into a homicide investigation. When one suspect's background suggests domestic violence, Upton is forced to reckon with her childhood.

Dave (FXX, 10 p.m.): SERIES PREMIERE. Dave, a rapper known by his stage name Lil Dicky, is a
neurotic mid-20s suburbanite convinced he's destined to be one of the greatest rappers of all time. In the first episode, Dave meets GaTa and gets educated on the social dynamics of the rap world. Under GaTa's tutelage, Dave tries to score a feature verse from YG. Dave also books his first-ever live performance. The show looks like an acquired taste to the nth degree.✔️

Good Trouble (Freeform, 10 p.m.): FINALE. The Coterie attends Trap Heals while facing tough decisions... Malika feels the weight of everyone's anxiety, Callie deals with a moral dilemma (but she does that every week), a confession blindsides Mariana, Davia worries about rocking the boat, and Dennis confronts his feelings (Finally?! This has been teased for soooo long).

It's Personal with Amy Hoggart (truTV, 10 p.m.): In Miami, Amy must help Livi, a college student struggling with the city's sexiness. Together, they experience all that Miami has to offer: dancing, food, double decker buses, and a hurricane.

The Magicians (Syfy, 10 p.m.): "Penny only wears vintage. Alice rejects a sandwich. Julia does a thing." This show loves stories about sandwiches. Also, this show will end at the end of the current season.

S.W.A.T. (CBS, 10 p.m.): The team searches for a link between the seemingly unconnected victims of a lone gunman targeting women. Luca assists with a homicide investigation in his neighborhood. Lt. Lynch pushes Chris to do a news interview.

Stumptown (ABC, 10 p.m.): After that guy walks on lava (or something... I don't really care), Dex takes on a case helping a mother who has lost custody of her children, which triggers parallels to her time in Afghanistan. The episode is titled "All Quiet on the Dextern Front." Oh, and Dex spirals and must face the reasons behind Benny's death. Meanwhile, Grey and Tookie coach Ansel on how to ask a girl out.

Tournament of Champions (Food Network, 10 p.m.): SERIES PREMIERE. Guy Fieri welcomes 16 of the best chefs in the world to the most intense culinary competition ever. It is mostly Food Network chefs but there are a few Top Chef names in there.... Michael Voltaggio... Richard Blais (blah!). Oh wait. Brooke Williamson! FINE, I'LL WATCH IT.

⭐ Twenties (BET, 10 p.m.): SERIES PREMIERE. Following The Chi and Boomerang, Lena Waithe expands her budding TV portfolio. The series follows aspiring screenwriter Hattie (Jonica T. Gibbs), a queer African American woman, who hangs out with her two straight best friends (Gabrielle Graham and Christina Elmore), as they all try to make their dreams come true in Los Angeles. In the opener, Hattie finds herself evicted, jobless, and down on her luck before she runs into the famed writer/producer Ida B. whose show Cocoa's Butter, Hattie has shaded on social media. Later, Hattie navigates office politics on her first day as a writer's PA. It features an impressive list of guest stars and recurring actors. The show has been in the works for years, originally as a YouTube series where a pilot presentation was produced in 2013. It then bounced around various studios for years before landing at BET.✔️
