Totally Tunes: Unlikely Collaborations

Sometimes different minds end up thinking alike, and also end up doing stuff together. The results may vary, and heads may butt in the interim, but one thing's for sure: the final product will be a very interesting thing to behold. Music is one piece of art in where artists from different genres collide to create impressive mash-ups no one could see coming.

I thought of this idea for this column the other day while on the bus, when Franz Ferdinand and La Roux's cover of Blondie's "Call Me" came up on the player, and my first thought, even though I've had the recording for some years now, was "holy shirtballs, I would have never imagined those two together making such a weird cover" (it's pretty much weird because I believe everyone there was hammered).

Usually live settings, like the previous example, are a perfect environment for the unlikely collaborations to happen, whether it is by publicity stunt means, friendship amongst the artists, or who knows what, but that's how a member of one of the world's biggest bands got to hang out with neon-colored former emos...

Or how a member of one of the world's biggest bands got to hang out with a band that's in the same genre as his, but their output is WHOLLY different:

And yes, we're always going on around covers, but what about original songs, eh? Well, I have examples of those as well! Like, let's say, a Swedish rock band and a certain bubbly singer...

Or, let's say, a Welsh band and none other than Traci Lords?

But those are some suggestions, the idea is for you to contribute now! What are some of your favorite unlikely music collaborations and why?
