What's On Tonight (Sunday): The Martians are coming! The Martians are coming!

War of the Worlds (via Giphy)
Hey. [*sits down exhausted*] Whew. I hope everyone has DVR space because with the special winter events concluded, Sunday is being inundated with TV programs. Therefore, please read this; it took time to assemble. The Top Pick on this busy night is the premiere of Epix's War of the Worlds, a modern day reimagining of H.G. Wells classic sci-fi novel. I'm a sucker for anything related to a Wells work. Elsewhere, have your Cancellation League ballots ready as Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist and Good Girls are back. (Jane Levy and Mae Whitman on the same network on the same night?! This night was made for me.) And Fox debuts its new animation domination comedy Duncanville. Also joining Duncanville (and War of the Worlds) in series premieres are more house building on HGTV plus food-ish shows on FYI and MSNBC, a Watergate show on Epix, and a Royal show on CNN. History celebrates Presidents Day with a long profile of George Washington and for that's opposite, the Florence Henderson and then the Bradys get profiled Reelz. Among the returnees tonight are American IdolOutlander, Joe Berlinger's Wrong Man, and most every broadcast show. Oh and John Oliver is back! Maybe he'll start being funny this season. If you're interested in Martian blood, you can get all you want right after the plane drops the bomb, here's what's on television for tonight, Sunday, February 16!

STREAMING / EARLY PRIMETIME

Twist of Fate πŸŽ₯ (UPtv, 7 p.m.): While stuck in her car after an accident, a young woman makes an emergency call, reaching an operator who attempts to keep her calm. Having formed an undeniable bond, they spend months trying to reconnect amongst repeated obstacles and misunderstandings.

60 Minutes (CBS, 7 p.m.): The massive, deadly bush fires in Australia and their relationship to climate change are investigated as are how the Democratic National Committee's server became the backdrop of the impeachment. The revival of the musical West Side Story also gets profiled

Crash Landing on You (Netflix, 3 a.m.): FINALE. This highly popular Korean series wraps up its first season on Netflix. A South Korean heiress crashes in North Korea while paragliding and is found by a North Korean army officer. Despite their differences, they fall in love.

Doctor Who πŸ“Ί (Retro TV, 6 p.m.): In Tombstone, AZ, the Doctor, Steven, and Dodo get themselves involved with the events leading up to the Gunfight at the O.K. Corral.

Frasier πŸ“Ί (Cozi TV, 7 p.m.): Frasier and Niles have to pull together Martin's wedding in a matter of days. Though the sitcom certainly wore out its welcome, this series finale was fantastic.

From Scratch (FYI, 6 p.m.): SERIES PREMIERE. Traveling the world for great food, David Moscow then goes to the kitchen to make meals from scratch, literally. He will milk a water buffalo for fresh mozzarella, harvest salt from the ocean, press olive oil, and dive for octopus.✔️

War of the Worlds πŸ“Ί (Heroes & Icons, 7 p.m.): No, this isn't the Top Pick. But H&I has brought this '80s syndicated show — and sequel to the excellent 1953 film version — out of the vault for any to revisit. This episode is part two of the pilot where the aliens are reawakened.

FOR THE RECORDAmerica's Funniest Home Videos (ABC, 7 p.m.); Murdered by Morning (Oxygen, 7 p.m.); Snapped (Oxygen, 6 p.m.)

πŸ•— EASTERN / πŸ•– CENTRAL

2020 American Rescue Dog Show (Hallmark Channel, 8 p.m.): SPECIAL. Shelter dogs of various breeds from across the country vie for top dog in the world's most adorable categories.

American Idol (ABC, 8 p.m.): PREMIERE. The judges go to Savannah, GA, Milwuakee, Washington, D.C., and Los Angeles in search of the next idol.

Duncanville (Fox, 8:30 p.m.): SERIES PREMIERE. You know, Bless the Harts looks pretty darn good compared to this. In the Duncanville pilot, Annie worries about her very average teenage son, Duncan, both voiced by Amy Poehler, which is really the synopsis of the entire series. Ty Burrell voices dad/husband Jack, Riki Lindhome voices sister/daughter Kimberly., and Joy Osmanski voices adopted sister/daughter Jing. Other voices include Rashida Jones and Wiz Khalifa. *checks notes* Yeah, that's right.✔️

Columbo πŸ“Ί (MeTV, 8 p.m.): Architect Patrick O'Neal's partner has disappeared and murder is suspected. However, there's no body. Columbo is on the case in one of my favorite early episodes.

El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie πŸŽ₯ (AMC, 8 p.m.): If you didn't catch it in theaters and/or don't have the Netflix, AMC premieres the follow-up movie to its masterpiece drama (with commercials).

Family Ties πŸ“Ί (Antenna TV, 8 p.m.): Alex is the editor of the school paper, and he finds a possible cover-up by the administration of students cheating. However, one of the cheaters is Mallory. The show was still searching for its voice in this early episode, but it does have something to say about responsibilities of a free press.

God Friended Me (CBS, 8 p.m.): The former Cancellation League favorite is back tonight! Rakesh is stunned when his new app suggests that Lulu, not Jaya, is his soul mate. Cupid has failed! Ali reveals her cancer diagnosis to Arthur and Trish.

Her Secret Family Killer πŸŽ₯ (Lifetime, 8 p.m.): A young woman searches for answers after learning that someone related to her murdered her best friend.

The Simpsons (Fox, 8 p.m.): The sea captain finds a treasure he's been searching for all his life, but it's taken from him by the townspeople. Marge convinces the people of Springfield to build a STEM school.

A Very British Romance with Lucy Worsley (PBS, 8 p.m.): Lucy Worsley explores British romance and the social, political, and cultural forces that shaped Victorian courtship.

Washington (History, 8 p.m.): SERIES PREMIERE. It's Presidents Day Weekend, which means its time for History's annual three-day event programs. This year, George Washington gets miniseries/docuseries treatment. In part one, sent by the British to deliver an ultimatum, the inexperienced young officer learns a hard lesson about leadership when his failures in the field inadvertently kick off a world war.✔️

⭐ War of the Worlds (Epix, 9 p.m.): SERIES PREMIERE. No this isn't the terribly received UK miniseries set during the Victorian era. This Anglo-French reimagining of the classic Wells novel is set in the modern day and starring Gabriel Byrne and Elizabeth McGovern. It aired in France last year to okay reviews. I'm not convinced this is a limited series. Oh great, could this be another Falling Skies? Or Colony? Then again, I liked Colony. No matter what, it will be better than Spielberg's 2005 adaptation, which was fucking terrible.✔️

What's Eating America with Andrew Zimmern (MSNBC, 9 p.m.): SERIES PREMIERE. Zimmern is joined by JosΓ© AndrΓ©s as "they go behind-the-scenes to solve U.S. immigration policies and how the food industry uses migrant and immigrant labor every day." SOLVE! FINALLY!!

Wrong Man (Starz, 9 p.m.): PREMIERE. Filmmaker Joe Berlinger (Paradise Lost trilogy) explores the criminal investigations that led to the conviction of three people who claim they are innocent. The episode title makes it sound as the investigating of Vonda Smith continues for season two opener.

Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist (NBC, 9 p.m.): Back after more than a month away (a page from the Glee playbook)...  Zoey (Jane Levy!! *swoons*) tries to figure out how to control her new abilities while navigating her best friend's romantic feelings for her. A new medical victory for Mitch gives the family hope.
