Jeopardy! recap for Thur., Feb. 13

Let's meet today's contestants:

- Brooke, a lawyer from Ontario, now knows not to road trip with lovers of bad music;
- Meaghan, a transformation analyst from Virginia, has a national championship in men's rowing; and
- Josh, a software engineer from New York, shares seasonal varieties of food items. Josh entered the game as a one-day champ with winnings of $14,601.

Josh opened the game by running a TV category, then later Brooke took the lead on DD3. But she held back $1,300 on her wager, which made the difference in Josh regaining first place with $17,200 vs. $16,300 for Brooke and $8,200 for Meaghan.

DD1, $400 - THE CIVIL WAR - Confederate troops used a high-pitched battle cry known by this 2-word name; it may have derived from fox hunting (Meaghan won $2,000 from her score of $4,600.)

DD2, $1,600 - HEAT STREET - Heat is a form of energy; the first law of this says that it can be neither created nor destroyed but it can be changed (Josh won $5,400 on a true DD to take the lead.)

DD3, $800 - TRIAL MIX - During the trial of this teacher in 1925, vendors sold refreshments, bibles & toy monkeys (Brooke won $7,700 from her total of $9,000 vs. $15,600 for Josh. In that situation, if you're going big, might as well go all-in.)

FJ - INTERNATIONAL LITERATURE - There are reminiscences of branding cattle & lassoing steers in "Martín Fierro", the national poem of this Western Hemisphere country

Brooke and Meaghan were correct on FJ, with Brooke adding $1,000 to win with $17,300.

Wagering strategy: Meaghan bet $7,000 of her $8,200 on FJ, while if she had bet it all, it would have forced Brooke to be correct in order to win. As it stood, if Brooke had missed, Meaghan would have lost by $100.

Triple Stumper of the day: No one knew the common way pasta chefs convert a liquid to a gas is boiling.

This day in Trebekistan: Alex made a comment that the players were happy when DJ ended, as he noticed that they hit a brick wall on the remaining categories about opera and religious fiction.

Correct Qs:
DD1 - What is rebel yell?
DD2 - What is thermodynamics?
DD3 - Who was Scopes?
FJ - What is Argentina?
