A Poem by Henry Gibson. This is What's On for January 14th 2019
8:00
NCIS (CBS): The team investigates an F-18 crash and the subsequent disappearance of the pilot; McGee reluctantly discusses a very personal decision with his teammates. (I hope he's not leaving, he's the only original member of the team left besides Gibbs!)
Ellen's Game of Games (NBC): "Hit Me Baby One More Slime" (Hey I get this reference!!!)
The Resident (FOX): Nic and Mina treat a patient battling a failing heart VAD forcing them to find a new battery to save his life; Conrad gets a call from a patient who is in crisis; and Cain tries to get close to Bell's business partner from the supplement company. (So we got one plotline about hunting down a battery, one about Conrad trying to save someone outside the hospital, and one about Morris Chestnut trying to snooze someone)
Jeopardy-The Greatest Of All Time (ABC): Night 4/Games 7&8 of the three way contest between Ken, Brad, and James takes place. Can anyone catch that Ken??? (I wouldn't bet against James myself but Ken is S-M-R-T) (But Brad Rutter Is Smutter) (i was trying to make that rhyme)
Arrow (The CW): Part Four of the Crisis On Infinite Earths Arrives Tonight (Hallelujah!!!!) with this show with "Stuck on the Vanishing Point, the Paragons search for a way to escape; Oliver reveals that he has become something else; the origin stories for the Monitor and Anti-Monitor are revealed" (For the record--next week is Arrow's two hour series finale sooooo i guess anything could happen to him)
Finding Your Roots (PBS): Tonight Queen Latifah and Jeffery Wright trace their ancestry alongside host Dr. Henry Louis Gates.
Frozen In Love (Hallmark): Your Hallmark Channel Movie of the Night is this one where "A struggling bookstore owner and a bad boy hockey player are teamed up when they are both picked by a reality show to give each other an image make-over" (I'm guessing somewhere along the way they learn to respect one another and/or possibly fall in love as well???) (Starring Rachel Leigh Cook--ooh! and Nial Matter)
9:00
FBI (CBS): A bank hold-up leads the team to a safe deposit box, the contents of which have the potential to destroy national security; Kristen is eager to get back into field work while other team members still have their concerns about this. (You know what i have in my safe deposit box??? Milk Duds...and you better believe that those milk duds are federally ensured!!!!)(E Pluribus Milkdud)
This Is Us (NBC): Returning to the schedule with the 2nd half of its season is this cosmic drama with "Kevin searches for romance (when is he not???); Katie meets Toby's Cross-Fit Friends (Oh boy that is on!); and Randall travels to LA to be with Rebecca (cause when last we saw Rebecca she was suffering memory lapses but in the near future and not in the present because nothing on this show can ever happen in a linear timeline) (Could you imagine Crisis taking place on This Is Us???) (oh right i caught up with this show over break--i wanna be mad at it because of how blatantly manipulative it is, but its super well done and well acted and even the big heartfelt emotional speeches are well written so i find it hard to be mad at it--i fully understand why it remains a big fat hit for the network even tho it does air on the treacle-y side at times.)
Gordon Ramsey's 24 Hours To Hell and Back (FOX): Ramsey helps transform Blend on Main-a restaurant in a tourist town struggling to stay afloat in the off-season, with a spectacular reservation, a fresh new menu, and hope for the future (And Hope For the Future?!?!?!?)
Mixed-ish (ABC): Rainbow wants to battle stereotypes at school after she joins the track team and feels like her friends only see her skin color; Sanamonica tries to be cool enough to hang out with Rainbow's friends. (Believe it or not I can actually relate to Rainbow here as I joined my high school track team during my freshman year and found myself to be the only white guy there for the duration of my years there--we did get a white guy or two coming over to us during baseball's off season, but they were mostly using track as a way to stay in shape for baseball season, but seriously i was the slow ass white guy for several years there! They'd stick me in the 3200 just cause my coach was like "i don't know what else to do with you here, tho that didn't stop him from also putting me in some of the relay races where you needed 4 men per team to compete)
DC's Legends of Tomorrow (The CW): Season 5 of this show (can you believe it???) returns tonight BUT its actually the big epic conclusion to "Crisis On Infinite Earths" (Part 5 to be exact) There was no synopsis on the cable guide summary (well actually there was but it was a generic description of Legends of Tomorrow and not an actual synopsis of the episode) soooo prepare to be surprised?!?!?!?
(Also The CW is running Parts 4 AND 5 of Crisis back to back like that?!?!?!? I somehow thought this would stretch out into the Arrow finale next week)
Frontline (PBS): America's Great Divide Part Two---From Obama To Trump (And Back Again???) How Trump's campaign heightened the country's divisions and how his presidency has instigated anger on both sides. (I see what you did there summary writer!!!!)
Curse of Oak Island (History): New evidence suggests the swamp may be man made on a scale the team never could have anticipated. (Well i mean man has made some pretty big things on a massive scale--I mean man made both The Hoover Dam and The Panama Canal!)
Chopped (Food): Four college students compete tonight and they have to make a humble pizza using common proteins. (Common Proteins???) ("I want to live like common proteins...i wanna do whatever common proteins do...i wanna sleep with common proteins like glue.")
Life Below Zero (Nat Geo): The Domino Effect---Alaskans must maximize the longer days in the summer. (So must we all Nat Geo...so must we all!)
Moonshiners (Discovery): Tickle's carpentry skills shine as Virginia outlaws plan a risky modification to their still; Mark and Digger take a swing with a small but pungent ingredient; and Josh faces a literal toxic work environment. (nods)
Gomer Pyle (MeTV): Sgt. Carter is overjoyed when he discovers that Gomer's enlistment period is almost up. (But seeing as how this is an episode from the middle of season 3, he probably shouldn't be so excited)
9:30
Black-ish (ABC): Dre's torn at the office between looking out for Junior and letting him make his own mistakes so he can learn from them; Jack loses a friendship after trying to look cook in front of his basketball team. (The episode is called "Boss Daddy" that's a play on Boss Baby right???)
Green Acres (MeTV): Oliver doesn't want to escort Lisa to the annual Carpenter's Ball. (aww why not???)
10:00
FBI Most Wanted (CBS): A single mother goes on a deadly rampage at a Public Defender's office taking justice into her own hands after her son is given a way harsh (Tai) sentence for a petty crime; Jess worries about how his daughter is handling life without her mother. (I don't think I knew that Jess had a daughter!) (Also the title of this show keeps making me think of Muppet's Most Wanted which is where my mind goes whenever I see the name of it pop up for some reason.)
New Amsterdam (NBC): With the hospital on lockdown after the Rikers patients escape (What?!?!?!?), Sharpe and Dr. Amsterdam find themselves in a situation that could cost them their lives; Bloom must put aside her pain to help a patient; Iggy is forced to face his marriage issues. (Nods-Ohh New Amsterdam--I know I say this every week--But You've Become Much Too Much!!!)
Emergence (ABC): Jo and Brooks assemble an unlikely team as they attempt to communicate with Piper; Piper is intent on saving Benny from Helen's mysterious mission; Alex receives a life changing offer. (Are there any linguists on this unlikely team??? I mean if you're looking for people to communicate with someone, that would be someone you'd want on your team right?)
Kings of Pain (History): Adam and Caveman Rob wrap up in Indonesia where the 2 suffer the worst bites to date from a Giant Asian Centipede and a 16 ft Reticulated Python. Vomiting, Rivers of Blood, and Stitches make them both question whether they can possibly continue. (Did they get renewed for another year????)
Famously Afraid (Travel): Once again my favorite show to summarize this week finds Daisy Fuentes checking into a haunted hotel; Angie Everhart having a ghostly encounter after a near death experience; Jake Busey spotting a real life UFO; and Sherilyn Fenn receiving a comforting message from the great beyond. (That should probably read "comforting message from the great beyond" Also at least one of these four is too big for the likes of this show right? I mean Jake Busey may not be a household name, but he still regularly works--he was in like half the episodes of Stranger Things this past year!!! That's a popular show, not something a D lister would be cast in right???)
Running Wild with Bear Grylls (Nat Geo): Radio personality Bobby Bones travels with Bear to a massive Norwegian fjord. (Fjord!!!)
Guardians of the Glades (Discovery): While Dusty and the team starve off the spreading invasion by creating a torniquet as the Stormcatcher Treatment Arise, Gary lobies to go down south and hunt for a record breaking snake. (That Record Breaking Snake???? You guessed it--Frank Stallone!!!!) (You didn't think I'd be able to work one of those in tonight, but I showed you!!!)
HAVE A GREAT TUESDAY! LETS GO JEOPARDY!!!!
(God Jeopardy Vs Crisis On Infinite Earths--That's Tough--If I were actually home tonight, i'd be hard pressed to have to make that choice!) (and that's not even taking into account the new NCIS ep on in that hour either!!!)
