Jeopardy! recap for Fri., Jan. 3

Today's contestants are:

- Shayna, a stage manager from Maryland, got a kiss from Yo-Yo Ma;
- Mat, a web developer from New York, named his dog after Nestor the Long-Eared Christmas Donkey; and
- Karen, a political consultant from Virginia, collects vintage earrings. Karen entered the game as a six-day champ with winnings of $115,603.

Karen once again moved away impressively in the latter stages of DJ, building a runaway with $22,600 vs. $7,800 for Mat and $2,000 for Shayna.

DD1, $1,000 - THE MOTH - The final stages of this oddly mobile seed with a "national" name is the emergence of a moth that has cocooned inside (Mat lost $1,000 from his score of $4,400 vs. $3,400 for Karen.)

DD2, $1,200 - CRIMINAL SLANG - Fans of "Law & Order" know this adjective meaning previous can be a noun meaning a previous arrest or conviction (On the first clue of DJ with $800, Shayna won the table limit of $2,000.)

DD3, $1,200 - ROCK BANDS - In 1988 "New Jersey" was a no. 1 album by this band that's from there (Karen won $3,000 from her total of $8,000 vs. $4,600 for Mat.)

FJ - CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENTS - Until a 1913 amendment allowed this, 1/3 of U.S. government revenue came from liquor

Karen and Mat were correct on FJ, with Karen adding $1,600 to win with $24,200 for a seven-day total of $139,803.

Triple Stumper of the day: No one knew the "Avalon" band led by Bryan Ferry, Roxy Music.

This day in Trebekistan: After the players started in the middle of a category and missed three clues they might have gotten had they started at the top, Alex seemed a bit aggravated with the whole strategy of fishing for DDs.

Correct Qs:
DD1 - What is Mexican jumping bean?
DD2 - What is prior?
DD3 - What is Bon Jovi?
FJ - What is income tax?
