What's On Tonight (Wednesday): Celebrate the season with the Moodys

The Moodys (via Giphy)
Hi-ya! Tonight's top pick is the holiday series The Moodys, which premieres tonight on Fox with back-to-back episodes and then finishes its run next week with four episodes over two nights, but not on Wednesday again. It's weird scheduling, but it looks like a weird show. Elsewhere, there is a Christmas movie on Freeform, Netflix rolls out some new stuff, a Christmas tree get lit, the Vikings are back, and men take on grizzly bears (literally). Plus CBS late night is back. So gather round to solve The Case of What's on Tonight because here is what's on television for tonight, Wednesday, December 4!

💻 STREAMING

Castle Rock (Hulu, 3 a.m.): "Pop confronts his old demons."

The Gulf (Sundance Now, 3 a.m.): SERIES PREMIERE. A New Zealand-set cop drama about the moral disintegration of detective Jess Savage, who investigates crimes on Waiheke Island. Probably not a pick-me-up kinda series.✔️

Let's Dance (Netflix, 3 a.m.): After his crew breaks up, a gifted but insecure hip-hop dancer teaches at a top ballet school in Paris

Magic for Humans (Netflix, 3 a.m.): Comedian and magician Justin Willman performing magic tricks for people on the street.

The Prince of Tennis (Netflix, 3 a.m.): SERIES PREMIERE. An anime series about tennis prodigiy Ryoma Echizen, who enters the tennis powerhouse Seishun Academy.

EARLY PRIMETIME

Jeopardy! ðŸ’² (Syndicated, check your local listings): No more Alex. I already miss her. Now, can Stephanie have a multi-day streak. We will find out here.

FOR THE RECORDCatch 21 ðŸ’² (Game Show Network)

🕗 EASTERN / 🕖 CENTRAL

87th Annual Christmas in Rockefeller Center (NBC, 8 p.m.): Two hours has John Legend, Brett Eldredge, Derek and Julianne Hough, Chicago, Straight No Chaser, Idina Menzel, Lea Michele, Ne-Yo, Gwen Stefani and Bon Jovi performing. Eventually the tree is lighted.

Doctor Who ðŸ“º (Retro TV, 8 p.m.): "The Mysterious Planet" kicks off the mostly-classic narrative The Trial of a Time Lord! The Doctor is put on trial by his people, accused of meddling in the affairs of the planet Earth far in the future when it was renamed Ravolox and moved from its original location. Yet, with Peri doing different things, Evil Lincoln noted at our old stomping grounds:
Nothing points out the incompetence of the Nathan-Turner production team like thinking they could pass Nicola Bryant off as an actual American actress. (Plus, why did they think they even needed to?)

The Goldbergs (ABC, 8 p.m.): A publishing company is interested in Beverly's cookbook, but they don't like how she writes. Elsewhere, Barry and Erica cannot stop fighting as roommates... everyone saw this coming.

In the Room (E!, 8 p.m.): SPECIAL. An interview with Tom Brady, the six-time Super Bowl champion at his new wellness facility and discusses his 10-year marriage to Gisele, fatherhood and how he's still crushing it on the field at 42.

Leopard Huntress (Smithsonian Channel, 8 p.m.): SPECIAL. No, this isn't a DC spinoff with a new version of Huntress. Rather this is about a big kitty named Malika, the leopard queen of Africa's Luangwa River. However, now she has some competition.

The Masked Singer (Fox, 8 p.m.): There are still four more singers that are masked.

Riverdale (The CW, 8 p.m.): The residents of Riverdale begin receiving more mysterious videotapes on their doorsteps. The seniors await their college decision letters, and the school's guidance counselor meets with the gang to discuss what's plaguing them.

Schooled (ABC, 8:30 p.m.): Learning he's not into baseball cards, Coach Mellor encourages Toby to be competitive in CB's Pokemon club. Lainey supplements her salary as a teacher by working at the local video store. VHS! VHS! VHS!

Survivor (CBS, 8 p.m.): The survivors attempt to survive, but the tribe will speak.

Vikings: The Saga of Floki (History, 8 p.m.): SPECIAL. Ivar the Boneless has left Kattegat, on a journey to parts unknown. He encounters a stranger and is flooded with memories of his past, prompting Ivar to recount the saga of the enigmatic genius Floki. So, is this like a clip show recap?

FOR THE RECORD: Alaskan Bush People (Discovery Channel, premiere); All Elite Wrestling (TNT); The Big Interview with Dan Rather (AXS TV); Black Ink Crew: Chicago (VH1, premiere); The Real Housewives of New Jersey (Bravo); WWE NXT (USA)

🕘 EASTERN / 🕗 CENTRAL

Family Time (Bounce TV, 9 p.m.): Brandy’s obsession with Funstagram puts Tony’s relationship with a new client at risk. Lisa embarks on a new career path.

Ghosting: The Spirit of Christmas 🎥🎄 (Freeform, 9 p.m.): Jess goes on the greatest first date of her life, but inadvertently "ghosts" Ben when she tragically dies in a car accident on the way home. Ghosts! Get it??!

Man vs. Bear (Discovery Channel, 9 p.m.): SERIES PREMIERE. This is a new competition program and it sounds weird. People try to beat an actual grizzly bear. This is dumb. The first episode is titled "Boomer vs. Millennial" and features a Boomer, Millennial and Gen Xer. Hard pass.✔️

Modern Family (ABC, 9 p.m.): The Dunphy house is bursting at the seams when Dylan's hippie mom moves in and Claire's lonely stepdad, Jerry, wants to pay them a visit. Jay and Gloria attempt to help Manny get over his big breakup with Sherry. I'm already dreading watching this.

⭐ The Moodys (Fox, 9 p.m.): SERIES PREMIERE. Freshly single, Dan returns to his childhood home for Christmas to find it's in various stages of disarray. Dan meets and instantly clicks with Cora, but she's dating his cousin. Bridget returns to her childhood home after a fight with her husband. This is a remake(ish?) of an Australian series.✔️

Nancy Drew (The CW, 9 p.m.): Nancy and the Drew Crew discover that the car wreck that left one of their own at death's door wasn't an accident and then investigate the physical evidence of sabotage to the car... and venture into the supernatural. But not Supernatural... yet?

The Oval (BET, 9 p.m.): "Hunter's reckless behavior becomes uncontrollable."

SEAL Team (CBS, 9 p.m.): Bravo team is on a mission to protect aid convoys in an Ebola hot zone after a warlord steals preserved samples of the virus that can be weaponized. But... how can samples be weapon-ready when they are still in an Ebola hot zone? That happens after they are shipped to specialty labs. It makes no sense!

Single Parents (ABC, 9:30 p.m.): When Graham brings Douglas' box of 1950s Playboys for show-and-tell, Angie knows she has to give "the talk" to Graham. Poppy tries to become closer with the twins by helping them discover their individual personalities. This sounds like the opposite of MoFam.

Vice News Reports (Viceland, 9 p.m.): "Animal Takeover" profiles rat-infested cities to the prairies overrun with wild horses. Later, an exploration of how global warming threatens our way of life.

Vikings (History, 9 p.m.): PREMIERE. Back for the first half of its final season, Bjorn struggles with the responsibilities of kingship. Lagertha has other plans to lead a quiet life. Ivar falls into the hands of the Kievan Rus and Prince Oleg.
