SNL Live Thread 12/21/19: Eddie Murphy / Lizzo

Finally it's the long awaited Eddie Murphy homecoming show. People have all kinds of crazy built up expectations for this, even Murphy himself based on that interview i saw with him and Al Roker on The Today Show the other morning! I'm guessing there'll probably be cameo appearances tho as Amadeus pointed out in last night's WOT entry, its hard to think of anyone from the cast that worked with him who'd Murphy himself would want on the show, heck its hard to think of anyone who was actually on the show alongside Murphy at this point aside from the one obvious name-- but maybe Joe Piscopo (him being that one obvious name) could make an appearance??? He was at the SNL 40th Anniversary Party as was Murphy, so maybe the two re-connected there? Its possible! I feel like if anybody from that cast were to show up it'd pretty much have to be him right???  (Seriously tho who else was even on the show when Murphy and Piscopo were both there? My memory says somebody named Terry Roasrio whom i can't even picture... I think Julia Louis Dreyfuss and possibly Mary Gross were both on there during Murphy's last year on the show as well as Jim Belushi but I don't actually know if that's right now...I guess i could check. Was Tim Kazurinsky on there then???)

Anyways against sky high expectations are hopes that this will in fact turn out to be better than what the show's been churning out on average so far this season (and last as well) It could be possible, Murphy has been known to be a perfectionist when he really likes the material he's working with, (or I guess when he feels a project is something that's worth the extra effort) and he's well aware of the pressure riding on him to make this something people will enjoy...so there are hopes that this will actually be good but well you know...

Musical Guest tonight is Lizzo whom I can't believe is making her debut on tonight's show since it feels like she's been around a lot longer than she actually has been pop culture wise....Are you sure SNL Wiki that she wasn't on at some point last season?!?!?!? Nope tonight is in fact her debut on the show!!! On the bright side it is always nice when I actually know who the musical guest is on the show these days as I really havn't for like the majority of them this season (and last) Hooray for cultural omnipresence!!!! (That's kind of rare these days for music isn't it? Well maybe not as much but i dunno if enormously popular pop songs pierce as many different kinds of people's worlds as much as they used to...Being used in commercials certainly helps that tho.)

Tonight's Vintage SNL is literally just a rerun of last years Christmas show with Matt Damon hosting and Miley Cyrus as the musical guest. I remember watching it and commenting on it with you fine folks here, but I remember next to nothing about it now. (shrugs) Its too bad our previous disqus channel nuked everything from last year cause I could've just looked it up to remind myself of what was in there, well i guess the good thing about being here is that this time next year when NBC starts running episodes from this season i'll be able to peruse the comments of the episode being rerun.

Anyways here's crossing my fingers that the show really snap, crackles, and pops tonight.
