Jeopardy! recap for Thur., Dec. 19

Let's meet today's contestants:

- Eric, a bartender from Arizona, who was not signaling "pour me a double" while being introduced;
- Peggah, a penguinologist from Illinois,  loves little penguins; and
- Dave, an information professional and writer from Michigan, is from Ohio and is a Browns fan. Dave is a one-day champ with winnings of $8,218.

Eric broke even on the two DDs in DJ after having built a massive lead, cruising into FJ with $21,000 vs. $6,000 for champ Dave and $1,100 for Peggah.

DD1, $1,000 - I'M DYIN' UP HERE - 4 of the 7 members of the team that first conquered this Alp in 1865 fell to their deaths during the descent (Peggah won $1,300 from her score of $2,200.)

DD2, $1,600 - MAMMAL FACTS - The 350 or so species of these include the numbat (Eric lost $3,000 from his total of $18,600 vs. $2,400 for Dave.)

DD3, $1,200 - CULTURE CLUB - The term for the struggles between liberals & conservatives, especially in media, comes from the German "kulturkampf" (Eric added $3,000 to his score of $18,000 vs. $2,400 for Dave.)

FJ - SCIENCE & INNOVATION - In her 20+ years working for this company, Audrey Sherman of Saint Paul has been granted more than 130 patents

Only Dave was correct on an FJ about a company that has been a popular subject of clues over the years. Eric dropped $4,000 to win with $17,000.

Triple Stumper of the day: No one knew the "Last" unfinished novel by F. Scott Fitzgerald, "The Last Tycoon".

Correct Qs:
DD1 - What is the Matterhorn?
DD2 - What is a marsupial?
DD3 - What is culture war?
FJ - What is 3M?
