Jeopardy! recap for Mon., Dec. 30

Today's contestants are:

- Ilene , a band director from Florida, had a surprise Thanksgiving wedding;
- Scott, a web developer from Colorado, fell short of his concert-going goal when his ears and liver gave out; and
- Karen, a political consultant from Virginia, has a big charm bracelet to remember her family. Karen entered the game as a two-day champ with winnings of $35,601.

Karen found all three DDs and was never seriously threatened, scoring a runaway at $20,400 vs. $7,000 for Ilene and $2,000 for Scott.

DD1, $600 - BEHIND THE LITERATURE - Kevin Kwan said he based this 2013 bestseller on the Kwan, Oh & Hu families (Karen won the window maximum of $1,000 on the first clue of the game.)

DD2, $1,600 - 17TH CENTURY HISTORY - This Virginia Native American died in 1618, but wars that bore his name were fought on & off between 1622 & 1646 (Karen was a bit off in her response and lost $3,000 from her total of $10,400 vs. $3,400 for Ilene.)

DD3, $1,200 - SPACE SCIENCE - Named for the man who first observed them, the "Galliean Satellites" are the 4 largest moons of this planet (Karen won $1,000 from her score of $18,600 vs. $7,000 for Ilene.)

FJ - 1950s PEOPLE - In a New Yorker profile, he said, "Where I like it is out West in Wyoming, Montana & Idaho, & I like Cuba & Paris"

Karen was correct on FJ, adding $1,600 to win with $22,000 for a three-day total of $57,601.

That's before our time: No one picked up on a clue's reference to Roger Moore's famous TV role "The Saint", which makes me wonder if they got what the writers were going for with category names "C_ment" and "Pond".

This day in Trebekistan: When Karen added an extra letter "m" to her FJ response, Alex said, "we don't penalize you for misspelled words". This isn't completely true, as they do penalize for misspellings that significantly change the pronunciation or essentially turn it into a different word.

Correct Qs:
DD1 - What is "Crazy Rich Asians"?
DD2 - Who was Powhatan? (Karen was ruled incorrect for saying "Powhatoa".)
DD3 - What is Jupiter?
FJ - Who was Hemingway?
