It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, "The Gang Solves Global Warming" (via Giphy) |
Here are today's contestants:
π» STREAMING
Castle Rock (Hulu, 3 a.m.): All it states is "In the beginning…."
Scams (Netflix, 3 a.m.): SERIES PREMIERE. In this import, his hard by the Lehman shock, a well-meaning young man joins a phone scam operation and gets increasingly embroiled in the underworld. But not that Underworld.
Virtually History (YouTube, 3 a.m.): SPECIAL. A virtual reality special about the Berlin Wall. I think.✔️
EARLY PRIMETIME
Jeopardy! π² (Syndicated, check your local listings): JEOPARDY JAMES IS BACK! Sound the alarm! And root for the other two!* Which are Alan Dunn and Lindsey Schultz. This is the third day of the five-day quarterfinals.✔️
*The views and beliefs of this WOT writer don't necessary reflect those of PC/WOT or its Friends.Law & Order πΊ (Sundance, 7 p.m.): Before she was Meredith Grey, Ellen Pompeo was Jenna, a woman who survived an attack that killed her mother and brother. But who committed the attack? Was is really her alcoholic father?
FOR THE RECORD: Catch 21 π² (Game Show Network, 6 p.m.); The Fixers (BYUtv, 7 p.m.)
π EASTERN / π CENTRAL
The Andy Griffith Show πΊ (MeTV, 8 p.m.): In this early highlight, Andy concocts a phony robbery and tries to match Barney with a shy seamstress.
Chicago Med (NBC, 8 p.m.): Charles and Halstead sink their teeth into a bloodthirsty case... were there vampires last week?! Marcel and Maggie throw a traditional crawfish boil for the staff.
Darwin & The Beagle's Scandal (Smithsonian Channel, 8 p.m.): SPECIAL. Before he wrote the book that revolutionized evolution, young Charles Darwin was on a voyage aboard the HMS Beagle. "It's a tale of bold exploration, tragic miscalculation, the death of a civilization, and the birth of Darwinism."
The Goldbergs (ABC, 8 p.m.): Murray buys WrestleMania tickets to spend time with Barry and Adam, but he buys fake tickets. Hulk Hogan guest stars. Beverly forms her own neighborhood watch group when the Frentas decide neighbor Jane Bales will be the watch captain.
Image Makers: The Adventures of America's Pioneer Cinematographers π₯ (TCM, 8 p.m.): Narrated by Michael McKean, this documentary tells the tale the first American cinematographers and how they shaped the art. (The American Society of Cinematographers turned 100 this year, too.)✔️
The Masked Singer (Fox, 8 p.m.): What every television-viewer dreams of... Masked Singer: BACK-TO-BACK EPISODES! Sorry, Almost Family. Points!
Nature (PBS, 8 p.m.): Tonight in the Lower Okavango River region, large herds of zebra and wildebeest migrate in search of salt.
Riverdale (The CW, 8 p.m.): This episode is titled "Witness for the Prosecution," which obviously means it's a remake of the classic movie. Returning to school following bad health, Archie takes on a murder case, defending American war vet Jughead, a poor and out of work inventor who's accused of murdering his lonely and wealthy acquaintance, Veronica. Then there's the Nisha Call. Wait... this summary isn't right?
Schooled (ABC, 8:30 p.m.): Lainey is asked to direct another school musical, but she is unsure whether she can top herself after the success of last year's production. The episode is titled "Hakuna Matata" so I'm guessing the musical is Pocahontas. Meanwhile, Coach Mellor's athletic records may soon be broken.
Survivor (CBS, 8 p.m.): Another castaway visits the "Island of the Idols," which sounds like a Twilight Zone crossover.
FOR THE RECORD: All Elite Wrestling (TNT); The Big Interview with Dan Rather (AXS TV); Black Ink Crew (VH1); Making Good (BYUtv, 8:30 p.m.); Random Acts (BYUtv); The Real Housewives of New Jersey (Bravo, premiere); WWE NXT (USA)
π EASTERN / π CENTRAL
All in the Family πΊ (getTV, 9 p.m.): Did you see the news that the next edition of Live in Front of a Studio Audience will be All in the Family and Good Times? In the Headlines discussion, Franko put out some holiday-themed contenders, and this episode, "Edith's Christmas Story" is certainly an AITF contender, though not the leading candidate. The family prepares for the Christmas celebration while Edith worries she might have cancer.
The Apollo π₯ (HBO, 9 p.m.): Filmmaker Roger Ross Williams looks at the storied history of the iconic Apollo Theater while following the Apollo's inaugural staging of Ta-Nehisi Coates' acclaimed Between the World and Me.✔️
Chicago Fire (NBC, 9 p.m.): Severide must make a tough decision about the future of his career. Herrmann deals with the consequences of his temper. Cruz is excited to demonstrate the Slamigan at the Firefighting Expo. Commissioner Grissom returns, taking over the fire station?
Family Time (Bounce TV, 9 p.m.): When Lisa dives headfirst into astrology, a skeptical Tony takes matters into his own hands. Meanwhile, Ebony's friend runs away from home and turns to her for help.
Heartland (UPtv, 9 p.m.): First, Amy and Ty disagree about how to treat a horse when the Fairfield manager has a concern. Later, Tim turns a team penning event into a town spectacle.
Modern Family (ABC, 9 p.m.): A few weeks ago, Phil, Claire, Alex, and Luke all used the twins for personal gain. This week, Gloria attempts to have them secretly baptize before Haley and Dylan get home. Elsewhere, Claire deals with the fallout from the smart closet fiasco, and Cam feuds with his school's mascot. Ugh. I'm gonna watch a classic episode.
Nancy Drew (ABC, 9 p.m.): When Nancy realizes that George is possessed by Tiffany's spirit, she must act quickly to free her. A mysterious stranger wanders in to The Claw and asks the gang to cater a charity gala. Episode title: "The Case of the Wayward Spirit"
Nova (PBS, 9 p.m.): New technologies help scientists decipher the ancient Dead Sea Scrolls, and also study newly surfaced fragments to see if they are forfeited. This seems like an already-overdone subject, but I trust Nova.
The Oval (BET, 9 p.m.): Barry takes the law into his own hands as he seeks to be a hero for his family. FWIW: I don't know who Barry is.
SEAL Team (CBS, 9 p.m.): The team is still trying to protect that ambassador from last week.
Single Parents (ABC, 9:30 p.m.): Angie's one-night stand turns out to be connected to the group in an unexpected way. Douglas must confront some family issues... with help from Poppy. Will helps teach Miggy how to work on his disciplining skills as a parent.
Vice News Reports (Viceland, 9 p.m.): A two-hour look at the 2008 financial crisis, but the "untold story" part. I don't get Viceland, so I'll gladly rewatch The Big Short. Remember when this timeslot was a variety show?! Oh, you don't... just me.
FOR THE RECORD: America Says π² (Game Show Network); Bitchin' Rides (Motor Trend); The Challenge (MTV); Dog's Most Wanted (WGN, finale); Engineering Catastrophes (Science); Extinct or Alive (Animal Planet); Forged in Fire (History); Guy's Grocery Games (Food Network); Holmes & Holmes (DIY); Homicide Hunter: Lt. Joe Kenda (ID); NFL: The Grind (Epix); Property Brothers: Forever Home (HGTV); The Real Housewives of Dallas (Bravo)
π EASTERN / π CENTRAL
American Horror Story: 1984 (FX, 10 p.m.): In the penultimate episode, "A deadly trio emerges, hell-bent on unleashing a new era at Camp Redwood. Former counselors desperately try to keep history from repeating itself." Is this at all like Orwell's 1984? I thought it might tinker in that direction, given the subtitle.
Back in the Game (CNBC, 10 p.m.): SERIES PREMIERE. No, it's not a revival of that bad James Caan-Maggie Lawson baseball sitcom. In this four-part series, Alex Rodriguez mentors athletes and performers (Evander Holyfield, Ryan Lochte, Nicole Eggert, Brian Dunkleman) get their finances in order.✔️
Cake (FXX, 10:30 p.m.): "The new LOL."
Chicago P.D. (NBC, 10 p.m.): Voight pulls Darius in after Crawford asks intelligence to investigate a dangerous drug, but there is little trust in the relationship. When a plan to nail a dealer goes awry, the team must make a difficult decision.
Crank Yankers (Comedy Central, 10:30 p.m.): Voices tonight are courtesy David Alan Grier, Will Forte, and Chelsea Peretti.
⭐ It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia (FXX, 10 p.m.): It gets hot in Philly. ["How hot does it get?"] In the 152nd episode (next week it, for the time being, catches up with Last Man Standing), the gang plans to profit from global warming by pumping up the A/C so people will congregate at Paddy's and save energy at home.
Life from Above (PBS, 10 p.m.): Tonight, look at the shapes that cover the earth's surface from space.
S.W.A.T. (CBS, 10 p.m.): The Harrelsons engage in a tense family reunion when Hondo's older sister arrives to see their (sick) father for the first time in decades. Also: the team searches for an abducted human rights activist, and Luca's food truck business hits a snag.
Sistas (BET, 10 p.m.): Changes in Andi's "situationship" leave her reeling. Sabrina's confusion causes her to avoid Calvin altogether, and Danni discovers more about Zac's struggles without Karen.
South Park (Comedy Central, 10 p.m.): South Park residents have had enough of Randy and Tegridy Farms, and they just want to lock him up. "Lock him up! Lock him up!"
Stumptown (ABC, 10 p.m.): In "Dex, Drugs and Rock & Roll," Dex's famous musician ex comes to town and Dex must protect her from a stalker. Tookie and Cosgrove are in the beginning of a beautiful friendship.
FOR THE RECORD: Deadly Engineering (Science); House Hunters/House Hunters: International (HGTV); The Mountain Monsters (Travel Channel); Shattered (ID)
π EASTERN / π CENTRAL
Sanford and Son πΊ (getTV, 11 p.m.): When Fred needs help around the house following an accident, Lamont hires a housekeeper. Troubles arise when the housekeeper turns out to be white... and lazy.
FOR THE RECORD: American Mystery (Travel Channel); Cash Cab π² (Bravo, 11:30 p.m.); Copwatch America (BET)
π€π€π΄π€π€
Baroness von Sketch Show (IFC, midnight): It's an upside-down world for women... legal ramifications of the scrunchie... is it peri-menopause?... a superhero for our times... going braless requires a sacrifice.
