Welcome To November One And All--Can You Believe Its Freaking November 1st?!?!?!? That's Crazy To Me--Weren't We Just All Celebrating The 4th Of July Like Last Week?!?!?!? Anyways Here's What's On Tonight
Streaming:
We got a bunch of things here but the most notable is probably top pick--Season Two of JACK RYAN which stars Jim from The Office (John Krazinski) as the title character and he turned out to be surprisingly great. (Who knew?!?!?!?) He was certainly better than Ben Affleck or Chris Pine in the role--which means that he was the best Jack Ryan since Harrison Ford, and it blows my mind to think of Jim from The Office being a successor to Hans Solo and Indiana Jones, but here we are! I also dug the international intrigue aspect which as i've noted in the past wouldn't feel entirely out of place on NCIS, but here its all you know "cool" and flashy and commercial free; as opposed to doled out in expositional dialog and in an old fashioned sturdy but always reliable hour long with new info being doled out before each commercial break style of narrative, (Also its an ongoing show unlike the episodic nature of the majority of NCIS plotlines)
Meanwhile over on the Netflix we have several movie premieres tonight including
1) The King which stars Timothy Chalamet as King Henry the Fifth alongside Robert Pattinson, Ben Mendelson, and Joel Edgerton.
2) American Son starring Kerry Washington, Jeremy Jordan, and Dr. Face-Hands himself in a story about an estranged couple reuniting in a Florida police station to help find their missing son.
3)The Man Without Gravity which is an Italian language film about a gravity defying boy who grows into a gravity defying man who longs for a connection with someone.
4) Holiday In The Wild starring Rob Lowe and Krsitin Davis about a woman embarking on a solo honeymoon to Africa where she meets a bush pilot, rescues a baby elephant, and nurses it back to health discovering her love of nature and Africa in the process. (How is this not a Hallmark Channel movie?!?!?!?)
There's also an Indian version of the movie "Drive" premiering tonight. (How is that not getting a theatrical release?!?!?!?)
Netflix also has the third season of a series called Atypical which was that Jennifer Jason Leigh show about a mother who is raising a teenager who's on the Autism Spectrum. I just made it sound like the show is about the mom, its actually about the son named Sam, but this is what happens when my knowledge of the show is entirely second hand and dependent on Google searches. (Oh Kier Gilchrist plays Sam--Why do i know that name???) Also Michael Rappaport is on this show?!?!?!? Hmmm!!!!
Meanwhile in a crazy twist, we are "gifted" (yeah right) with yet another streaming service people are gonna have to shell out $$$ for that has a bunch of new shows all premiering today to the public officially----We have the official premiere of APPLE TV happening here with the premiere of the much, much, much, much, much, promoted and i'm sure wildly over hyped morning news drama/comedy show The Morning Show (starring Jennifer Aniston, Reese Witherspoon, Steve Carell, Billy Cruddup, and a number of other names.) Will it be good? Will it be the new Emmy darling? Will it be a forgotten yet expensive also ran that people barely remember the existence of come two months from now??? Time Will Tell!
Apple TV also has a couple of other shows premiering right alongside of it but Morning Show is clearly the big 800 lb show they're hoping to snag people with--
but for the record they also have a show called Dickinson which stars Hailee Steinfeld playing a millennial version of Emily Dickinson (seriously?!?!?!?)
a show called "For All Mankind" which is a period drama show from Ronald D. Moore (ooh! creator of the 00's version of Battlestar Galactica among other things) about the space race and us versus The Soviets starring Joel Kinnamann, Michael Dormanm, Sarah Jones (who used to be the lead female on Alcatraz) Wrenn Schmidt (who is a she which i did not know!) and Shantel VanSanten.
Also on Apple TV is a reboot of the old 90s PBS show Ghostwriter---I was wondering what took them so long to bring back Ghostwriter quite honestly! (I genuinely did not know one was in the works! God what's next? A reboot of Wishbone?!?!?!?)
Lastly there's also a documentary called "The Elephant Queen" which is drawing glowing reviews and is apparently narrated by Chiwetel Eljiofodor and is produced by David Attenborough
So there you go a whole lotta crap that unless its super successful and/or gets a DVD release that my library will obtain--I probably won't be able to watch!!! (Well i can watch Jack Ryan at least)
BROADCAST
8:00
Hawaii 5-0 (CBS): A deadly hit and run involves a driverless car carrying heroin; Tani and Quinn are stuck with a pair of youtubers who are brought on a ride along. (CBS! CBS! CBS!) (No seriously! In this era of ever expanding streaming services I've never been as glad to have ol' reliable here! God Bless You Steady And True 5-0 Team!!!)
The Blacklist (NBC): Liz and The Task Force investigate an infamous assassin who has a long history of weaponizing diseases but has now turned to even more insidious activities; Red and Dembe travel to Cuba in search of a lead; Aram considers a new relationship. (Awww...its kinda sweet that the show remembers to take time to do an Aram storyline even if its relegated to a C plotline that prob won't get 3 minutes of screentime at most)
American Housewife (ABC): With Katie's 40th birthday fast approaching, her self-esteem starts to wane so Greg proposes that she have a fun carefree night out on the two with her best friends and even goes so far as to suggest that she could leave her wedding ring behind if she wanted to. (I don't know if that's thoughtful or literally asking her to cheat on him, but i'm gonna air on the side of thoughtful since I heart Greg--he's Deidrich Bader!!!)
Friday Night Smackdown (FOX): Smackdowns Are Once Again Laid Down (are they ever not laid down?!?!?!?)
Charmed (The CW): Macy and Mel join forces with Abigael to track down the Assassin; Maggie starts her new gig and has a breakthru when she reaches out to help Jordan; Harry discovers a horrifying secret. (That horrifying secret??? That the show had been moved to Fridays--although is that really that much worse than Sundays???)
Raven's Home (Disney): Booker gets jealous when Danni strikes up a friendship with Nia and Tess, Levi helps Raven and Chelsea realize that they should combine their businesses. (shrugs)
8:30
Fresh Off The Boat (ABC): When Matthew Chestnut returns to Cattleman's Ranch, everyone but Louis agrees that he's a bad influence, leaving it up to Jessica, Eddie, and Trent to take him down; Emery and Evan give Marvin a crash course on feminism and etiquette. (Since Ray Wise plays Marvin, the idea of the two boys combining to give the father of Laura Palmer a crash course in feminism and etiquette is kinda funny to contemplate)
Just Roll With It (Disney): Gator worries about impressing his former classmate at his high school reunion so he enlists the help of the Bennet-Blatt family to pose as his family. (My 20th high school reunion is actually taking place in May/June but I don't think i'd go so far as to hire a family to pose as my own--I'll just hire Whistler if she'll take the gig!)
9:00
Magnum PI (CBS): Magnum must help his defense attorney girlfriend when she realizes a client she successfully defended in a murder trial is actually guilty (OH NOOO!!!!); TC confronts Kamiknona about stealing his helicopter business. (Oh Snap Kamikona from 5-0 is crossing over!!!)
Dateline (NBC):
20/20 (ABC): A man is convicted of killing his 8 month pregnant wife, but a new tip arises pointing the finger of blame in a different direction. (Tru Crime Story People! Nothing to see here! Keep it movin')
Dynasty (The CW): Blake and Cristal surprise Adam with some news that doesn't sit well as Adam attempts to sabotage their plans; Fallon refuses to give up on convincing Liam that she is his soul mate and manipulates Sam into doing her bidding. (ooh bidding!!!!)
Great Performances (PBS): A new stage version of 42nd Street is broadcast in full tonight. Related bit from The Drew Carey Show https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0E4lQmjLa7w (I love this!)
Ancient Aliens (History): Divine substances have been consumed by the gods but sometimes gifts to humans end up imparting power or great wisdom; Could the food of the gods be substance for alien visitors and does it lend insight into humanity's future??? (Uhh wait so this show now believes in Gods as well as Aliens?!?!?!? This is heavy to deal with man!)
Gabby Dunn and the Unsittables (Disney): When Gabby develops a crush on a boy from her school, her attempts to fight her own feelings inadvertanly throw the boy's life into chaos. (Awwww)
Diners, Drive Ins, and Dives (Food): Guy Fieri and his son Hunter go to Juneau Alaska to eat everything from a family run wood fried pizza wagon to a funky basement spot making Latin Asian fusion. (Wait so they're gonna eat the wagon?!?!?!?)
Gold Rush (Discovery): Parker second guesses the ground he's mining and questions his new foremen; Tory Beats makes a big decision to remove the family's entire operation; Rick's mechanic arrives at a critical moment. (Gold Rush makes a big decision)
9:30
Green Acres (MeTV): While rummaging thru an old trunk, Lisa and Oliver find evidence of a 19th century romance. (nods--maybe Green Acres is the place to be!!!)
10:00
Blue Bloods (CBS): Frank is conflicted about how to deal with a former cop's gripe about his pension; Jamie helps a friend deal with illicit pictures of his daughter on the internet; Anthony confronts the realization that his foster son isn't suited for police work. (Wait, Wait, Wait--Anthony has a foster son??? Did we know that already or this show springing new info on us all of a sudden?)
Van Helsing (SYFY): A crazed Max who had held Jennifer and Owen hostage leads Flesh and Axel on a chase thru an infested desert. (Ok, cause that sentence makes sense!) (Also its the post vampire apocalypse---its hard to find places that aren't infested--although there are some cities and communities that have set out to do just that)
Secrets of the Bible (History): We're on the hunt for 2 of the most famous treasures from the Bible--King Solomon's Mines and The Ark of the Covenant. Do They Really Exist? And How Can We Find Them And Also Televise Said Findings??? (Because if you've seen the end of Raiders--you know that its not gonna be easy to televise the opening of the ark of the covenant--it'd have to be rated TV-MA for one thing)
Ghost Nation (Travel): In Halifax, VA a sketch of a terrifying female apparition draws the Ghost team to investigate. (I'm really starting to feel like i could make these up if i had to!)
Hogan's Heroes (MeTV): In this pair of 6th season episodes we have "Schultz is temporarily promoted to commanding officer" and "Hogan discovers that the new prisoner is actually a Nazi spy" (How many times do you think the show has done that over the course of its run? I'm actually curious because i don't actually know the show as well as others here but i feel like that's gotta be a basic plot no?)
11:00
Comedy Central Stand-Up Presents: At 11 we have Tom Thakkar and then at 11:30 we have Mia Jackson
Finding Escobar's Millions (Discovery): This show now relocated to a new night and new timeslot has "A former Escobar hired chemist claims to know where 20 mill in gold is buried; Chris and Ramon investigate a new property with secret tunnels"
