This Weekend in Pop Culture: October 18-20

Welcome to the Weekend in Pop Culture! Let's examine what's coming out in theaters this weekend...

Wide

Maleficent: Mistress of Evil

The plot summary for this on the IMDb was so vague, I couldn't tell what it's about. So I'll just imagine it's about a Disney villain who sleeps with Dr. Evil. Man, these things have taken some weird turns.

Zombieland: Double Tap

The quartet of zombie killers encounter new survivors (and more zombies, presumably). Semi-related: Who would've guessed that, when they all came back for the sequel, the cast member with an Oscar would be Emma Stone?

Limited

Jojo Rabbit

A boy in the Hitler Youth discovers that his mother is hiding a young Jewish girl in their house. Wait, I see you rolling your eyes at how much this sounds like standard Oscar bait--what if I tell you it’s a comedy, and the boy's imaginary friend is Adolf Hitler?

The Lighthouse

Two lighthouse keepers in the 1890s find the isolation of their jobs slowly driving them insane. One of them is Robert Pattinson, who seems determined to star in at least a quarter of the movies that distributor A24 releases.

So what have you been up to in pop culture? And what do you plan to get up to soon?
